According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fiorentina have already begun looking for a replacement for Juventus-bound Felipe Melo, identifying Fernando as an ideal substitute.

The 21-year-old Porto midfielder arrived at the club in 2007, when he was immediately loaned out to Estrela da Amadora, where he spent one season.

In the 2008-09 season, he became a key member of the Dragons following the departure of Paulo Assuncao to Atletico de Madrid, and his performances have not gone unnoticed in Europe.

The Italian paper suggests that Fiorentina have lodged a €7 million bid for Fernando, who was part of the Brazil squad in the 2007 South American Youth Championship.
