AC Milan Coach Leonardo: Massimo Ambrosini Will Be Our New Captain

The Brazilian is looking forward to his first campaign in charge of the club...

Leonardo takes over from Carlo Ancelotti on the Milan bench
Leonardo has given his first press conference as the coach of AC Milan and explained that he is certain that it was the right decision on a personal level and that he believes the club will be able to compete at a very high level.

"After a month I am even more convinced of my choice. I've used this time to understand many things," he said, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

"We have a team that can take on many people, even outside of football."

However, Leonardo did admit that the Rossoneri have lost some key members with the departures of Carlo Ancelotti, Paolo Maldini, and Kaka.

"I was very close to Carlo during his tenure as coach and it is a great thrill to take his place. I was also very close to Paolo, also with Kaka, we were all united."

Meanwhile, veteran midfielder Massimo Ambrosini is set to sign a new contract with the Serie A outfit, and Leonardo praised the player's dedication.

I'm happy for Max, because he is someone who has Milan in his DNA, like [Demetrio] Albertini, Maldini, [Alessandro] Costacurta, and [Franco] Baresi. He symbolises Milan," he continued.

"My first act as coach will be to make him my first captain."

Milan's first major pre-season tests will be in the United States, where they will take on Club America, Chelsea, and Inter between July 19-26.
