Francesco Totti: I Will Sign New Roma Deal This Month
‘Er Pupone’ has revealed he will soon pen a new contract to stay at the club until 2014.
Totti’s current deal with the Eternal City out will run out next year and it was suggested that discussions over an extension had been put on hold due to the club owners being entangled in takeover talks with a Swiss consortium.
“Before we left [for Austria] I spoke to Rosella Sensi and I will sign the contract as soon as I come back from the training camp,” he told reporters during the press conference.
“I will sign before the start of the Europa League and will remain at Roma for five more years until 2014.”
Roma will take their bow in the competition which will replace the UEFA Cup next season on July 30.
Totti was the subject of a vicious verbal attack this week as Nicola Irti, the lawyer for prospective owner Vinicio Fioranelli, claimed the skipper was ruining the club and Roma should seriously consider getting rid of him.
“I am disappointed that such an important lawyer said these things and I fail to understand why,” said Totti.
“I am pleased with the answers from important figures such as [Rome mayor Gianni] Alemanno and Rosella Sensi, politicians, fans and friends who have preceded my reply.
“As far as I know it was Fioranelli’s lawyer who spoke out. Fioranelli said nice things about me and I thank him. But Rosella is Roma’s President and will continue to be in the future.
“She reassured me about it before we left and I’m proud of such a President.”
