Maurizio Zamparini: Walter Zenga Will Win Over Palermo Fans
The Rosanero patron is adamant the fans will back the new boss, despite his Catania past...
But a section of the Palermitani fans raised their collective eyebrows at the move as Zenga was at the helm of bitter rivals Catania for the past two seasons and resoundingly humiliated the Rosanero last term with a 4-0 thrashing at the Barbera.
“We do not fear protests,” President Maurizio Zamparini said to the Giornale di Sicilia.
“I was in Palermo over the past few days and I spoke to many people who told me that Zenga was the right choice.”
However, Zenga will not be unveiled to the media in Palermo, as the club have opted to arrange the traditional press conference in Austria, where the Sicilians will begin their pre-season preparations next Thursday.
“Unfortunately, it was impossible for us to make it happen and Zenga will be presented to the press in Austria," continued Zamparini.
“Then he will have his first contact with the fans when the squad will return to the city after the training camp.”
Palermo will remain in Austria until August 2.
