Iezzo Still Feels Like Napoli's First Choice Goalkeeper - Agent

Napoli goalkeeper Gennaro Iezzo is confident of remaining the first choice despite his age and the arrival of Morgan De Sanctis.

Despite the injury he suffered halfway through last season, 36-year-old goalkeeper Gennaro Iezzo feels he still has a lot to give to Napoli. The player's agent Luca Urbani spoke to Napoli Magazine Live about his future.

"He still has one year left on his contract with Napoli, he is tied to the club until 30 June 2010," he said. "He has completely recovered from his injury. He's at 100%. He could have defended Napoli's goal in the last three matches of last season, as he had done for three years and a half before his injury."

If Iezzo stays in Naples, he will have to compete for a starting place with Italian international Morgan De Sanctis, who was recently signed from Sevilla.

"Napoli have bought a fine keeper like De Sanctis, who had done very well at Udinese, [Pierpaolo] Marino knows him very well," Urbani continued.

"Iezzo can choose to stay at Napoli or to find an alternative. He still feels like a number one, inside he still feels like Napoli's number one. It would be hard for him to spend a season on the bench."

Asked what the alternatives could be for Iezzo, his agent said: "He is being followed by two clubs, but they have to ask Napoli first.

"Would Iezzo prefer to be the second choice at Roma rather than fight for a starting place at Napoli? It's a difficult issue. It's not like he would turn his back on Napoli if he went to Roma. If this chance came along, it would be a new adventure with new challenges."
