Jose Mourinho: Youth Is The Way To Go For Inter
The ‘Special One’ is adamant the Nerazzurri need to inject new blood into the club to avoid falling off their perch.
Jose Mourinho is preparing for his second campaign at the helm of Inter, and he wants to blood a younger team this coming season.
The Beneamata have already brought in South American pair Diego Milito and Thiago Motta this summer, but the Portuguese has urged the club to start looking to young prospects to preserve their elite status.
“This is the team that I like the most from a human point of view,” Mourinho, who became the first foreign coach to win the Serie A title in his maiden season in almost 40 years, admitted to Portuguese magazine Espiral Do Tempo when asked to compare the Nerazzurri to the teams he has managed in the past.
“Inter have the best people, but they have nothing left to grow if they don’t rejuvenate the squad. My teams were always at the start of a cycle.
“On the other hand, it is far more difficult to coach when the average age is around 32. You have reached the limit of your potential and that’s the reason why I want talented youngsters to come in.”
Mourinho got a first-hand taste of the anomaly that is the Italian football press last term and caused controversy when he accused them of “intellectual prostitution”.
“The Italian press follows Calcio very closely,” mused the ex-Chelsea manager.
“Perhaps I went too far by talking about intellectual prostitution. But in that phase of the league I felt the need to add fuel to the fire.
“Milan is a city split between Milan and Inter, but only Milan have this kind of media access. No matter how much the press tries to be independent, it always ends up being the opposite. And that impacts on a club like mine.”
