Piersilvio Berlusconi: My Dad Will Not Sell Milan
Berlusconi Jr. has reiterated that the family has no intention of selling the club. He also admits that the fans must brace themselves for a transitional season...
There have been strong reports in recent months that Arab investors have been in tentative discussions with Fininvest, the holding company which controls Milan, to take over the club, but Piersilvio is adamant there is nothing on the horizon.
“In over 20 years, I have never seen in my father the least bit of subsidence of passion for Milan,” he told Mediaset showman Piero Chiambretti last night.
“Neither my sister Marina nor I have ever meddled in Milan’s affairs.”
Milan have sold Brazilian ace Kaka to Real Madrid and have ushered in a new era by pursuing young prospects rather than big-name stars, while the Italian Prime Minister hopes that new boss Leonardo will be able to get the best out of Ronaldinho.
“As I said in the past, I did not want Ronaldinho, as well as I did not agree with [Andriy] Shevchenko’s return,” admitted Piersilvio.
“I like [Edin] Dzeko, he would love to join us, but they [Wolfsburg] are not releasing him. It means we will blood the youngsters. After years of success we have a project to overhaul the squad: it will take patience, it will be a breakthrough season.
“I don’t know if it was right to sell Kaka, but if you aim to invest in youth, I believe it was right. [Jose] Mourinho? He was right: zero tituli for us. They are strong. I agree with [Adriano] Galliani that a top-three finish would be okay next season.”
