Roma Striker Vincenzo Montella Retires From Football - Report
The hitman has reportedly announced his retirement from the game following a 17-year career in Calcio...
'L'aeroplanino', known for his famous flying celebration, will not be taking off with the Giallorossi this season. Montella's current contract expires in 2010, but he will be stopping this summer. The report suggests Montella has already announced his retirement and while several other Italian news agencies have reported the event, there has not been an official announcement from the player or Roma yet.
Montella began his senior career at Empoli in 1992 and he went on to play for Genoa, Sampdoria, Roma and a brief loan spell with Premier League side Fulham.
Alongside Francesco Totti, he is the only remaining member of the Lupi's 2000/01 Scudetto-winning squad. Montella joined Roma in 1999 from Sampdoria. He played 20 times for Italy, scoring three goals.
