EXCLUSIVE: The Football World Is Immoral Nowadays - Gigi Simoni
Experienced coach Gigi Simoni talked about football's big spenders and predicted his former club Inter will once again dominate Italian football.
The 70-year-old spoke exclusively to Goal.com Italia about various current topics.
"It's all so crazy these days," he said. "I watched Kaka's presentation, it was so over the top. Staggering amounts of money are going around, I think all of this is immoral. During my time there was a lot more attention to salaries, it was all more human. Players wouldn't come asking for a raise just because they are playing well, like Maicon is doing.
"I also ask myself how these players can keep their feet on the ground with all that money..."
On the many players who have left Serie A recently, Kaka being the most well-publicised example, Simoni said, "Personally I think it's better. Let's allow others to spend crazy amounts. That way we will give more space to youngsters and grow. The last few seasons have shown that even though we had some champions, we didn't win the Champions League, so we have nothing to lose if we try to trust young players."
He then went on to talk about Inter, who he thinks are still by far the best team in Italy, he stated, "Inter are superior to everyone. They were stronger before, and they're stronger now. No other team is at their level. I like [Diego] Milito a lot, [Thiago] Motta has a particular character but he knows what he's doing. And if [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic stays the offensive potential will be even greater than last season.
"[President Massimo] Moratti is doing well. Now he says that those who want to leave Inter can do so, it becomes a choice of the player. Finally he no longer bows to players' wishes, he keeps only those who want to stay."
On Inter's rivals, Simoni commented, "Milan are behind. Without Kaka and perhaps [Andrea] Pirlo, they will struggle. Juventus aren't bad but I don't think they have the quality to trouble Inter."
Finally, on banned former Juventus manager Luciano Moggi, who announced he may be making a return to football at Bologna, he said, "It's evident that I'm surprised. I really don't see how he can return, in what role, but I'm curious to see what will happen. Still, I'm very, very surprised about this."
