The Italian starlet is hoping to take a leaf out of Alberto Gilardino's history book...
Italy Under-21 international striker Robert Acquafresca has revealed he takes inspiration from Fiorentina and Nazionale hitman Alberto Gilardino. The Genoa-owned striker is preparing to take on Germany in tonight's European U-21 Championship semi-final in Helsingborg. Acquafresca is set to start after scoring twice against Belarus in the Azzurrini's last match and he is hoping to emulate what Gilardino did in 2004, when the Italians won the tournament in Germany.
"The model for any young Italian player is Gilardino," Acquafresca told Calciomercato.com.
"He has done it before by winning the U-21 European Championship and he has confirmed himself with Fiorentina and Italy.
"I want to win the top scorer award in this competition, just like he did under Claudio Gentile."
