Italy coach Marcello Lippi has summoned his players for crisis talks following the shock loss to Egypt on Thursday night, according to La Repubblica.

The former Juventus man held a meeting with his players behind locked doors at their Southdowns College training complex in Pretoria this morning. It is said Lippi demanded answers and he challenged his players to explain what went wrong at the Ellis Park stadium.

Lippi then left the dressing rooms and headed to the training pitch where a number of players who were not involved in last night's game were training. Those players who turned out against Egypt were instructed to stay in the gym.

Alberto Gilardino, Mauro Camoranesi and Luca Toni then emerged onto the pitch and joined the coach to continue working towards the Brazil match this Sunday.

The Egypt defeat leaves Italy's Confederations Cup hopes hanging in the balance. The Azzurri have to beat Brazil, and hope results elsewhere go their way in order to qualify for the semi-finals.
