Italy Coach Lippi Backs Ferrara For Permanent Juventus Role

Marcello Lippi is ready to release Ciro Ferrara from his international duties so he can join Juventus permanently...

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has promised Juventus he will release his Azzurri assistant if the club want to sign him on a permanent deal.

According to reports, Ferrara is set to fight it out with Roma coach Luciano Spalletti for the Juve role, and the former stopper has the full backing of Lippi who believes this is a golden opportunity for his right-hand man as he pushes him towards Turin.

"If Juventus want Ferrara then I will release him on Saturday night," Lippi told Sky Sport Italia.

"Maybe he has the good fortune of becoming the Juventus coach, we will have to wait and see. Of course he has been important for Italy and he will continue to be over the next few days."

Lippi has also explained his decisions to call up a whole host of new players for the upcoming friendlies against Northern Ireland, and New Zealand respectively and he has hinted that there could be more surprises in 2010.

"For those who are here now it's like a prize for them, but it doesn't mean that they will not be called up in future," added the coach.

"A World Cup squad is born by looking at a number of players. Italian football is not just about the big clubs."
