Report: Inter Starlet Davide Santon To Earn First Italy Cap, Antonio Cassano Snubbed Again

The ‘Kid’ is expected to make the step up to international level along with a host of new faces, but there is still no place for Cassano.

Italy boss Marcello Lippi will name a 34-strong squad on Thursday ahead of a friendly international with Northern Ireland in Pisa on June 6 and Inter wing-back Davide Santon will get his first senior call, according to the Corriere dello Sport.

The 18-year-old, who is already in the Italy Under-21 setup, only made his Nerazzurri debut at senior level last January in a Coppa Italia match against Roma. He then collected 15 Serie A appearances and two in the Champions League.

Other debutants should be Cagliari goalkeeper Federico Marchetti, Catania midfielder Marco Biagianti and team-mate Giuseppe Mascara, Lecce defender Andrea Esposito, Siena midfield man Daniele Galloppa and Chievo hitman Sergio Pellissier.

Lippi will also name his 23-man squad for the Confederations Cup in South Africa, however, Sampdoria ace Antonio Cassano is likely to miss out once again.

Probable Italy Squad: Buffon, Zambrotta, Cannavaro, Grosso, De Rossi, Pirlo, Perrotta, Camoranesi, Toni, Gilardino, Iaquinta, Quagliarella, Di Natale, Amelia, Chiellini, Gamberini, Legrottaglie, Dossena, Montolivo, Palombo, Pepe, Brighi, G.
