Marcello Lippi: Inter Deserved Serie A Title
The Italy boss has applauded the Nerazzurri and Mourinho for storming to a fourth successive Scudetto.
Inter were crowned Italian champions on Saturday after bitter rivals Milan slipped to defeat at Udinese. It is the fourth success on the spin for the Beneamata, who have also equalled the Rossoneri’s record of 17 Serie A titles.
Jose Mourinho became the first foreign coach to win the Scudetto in his maiden season since Hungarian tactician Arpad Veisz, who lead Inter to glory in 1930.
And Italy coach Marcello Lippi paid tribute to the Nerazzurri this morning, as he attended an award ceremony at the Museum of Football in Coverciano.
“It is a very deserved Scudetto,” Lippi told the assembled media pack. “They were the most consistent team, the strongest, most concentrated and determined side.
“The coach did well in making the most of his squad’s strength and that’s the most important quality in a tactician. Pressing, offside tactics and double marking don’t win you games, but the coach has to exploit the human resources at his disposal and he did it very well.
“Was Mourinho an added value for Inter? Of course, but the man in charge last year was also good, since this was their fourth straight title.”
Mourinho’s predecessor was Roberto Mancini, who was sacked last summer despite retaining the Serie A crown and leading the Nerazzurri to the Coppa Italia final.
