The Azzurri started out the current campaign in brilliant fashion, before being one of the worst-performing teams in the second part of the Serie A season. Now the fans are demanding reinforcements ahead of the 2009-2010 season.
Transfer expert Walter De Maggio recently revealed to Radio Kiss Kiss that Napoli have already asked Sampdoria manager Beppe Marotta about the player, and according to him there should be a meeting between him and Napoli transfer guru Pierpaolo Marino soon to discuss terms.
Meanwhile, journalist Emanuela Calcago of Mediaset said, "The player has been followed by both Inter and Juventus, while Napoli are monitoring the situation.
"Cassano costs €20 million and has a clause with Samp that would free him in case a good offer comes. He has a good relationship with [Roberto] Donadoni, he is the coach that brought him back to the national team, and Napoli are a prestigious club.
"However, it should be pointed out that he is very happy in Genoa at the moment."
Currently Napoli are in 13th place and are out of contention for a place in European competitions.
