Italy coach Marcello Lippi has opened the door to Sampdoria striker Antonio Cassano as he offers hope to the Bari-born star.

The relationship between coach and player has never been rosy and this has been reflected by Lippi's decision to exclude Cassano from every Azzurri squad since his return to the helm of the side last year.

However, the World Cup-winning tactician has revealed there could be a call-up for the star and for other players who prove they are worthy to represent the country at international level.

"The doors are open for everyone, wait and you will see," Lippi told Sky Sport Italia.

The coach also spoke about Serie A and Inter's run on the Scudetto, as well as Jose Mourinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“Mourinho deserves praise as it is not easy to win in Italy. I also feel Ibrahimovic deserves the Italian player of the year award as he has been the most consistent,” added the coach.

“As for the Scudetto, it's 99.99 per cent over.”
