Report: Milan Star Filippo Inzaghi Turns Down Atalanta Offer
The Nerazzurri were keen to reunite with the 35-year-old, but ‘Superpippo’ has made it clear he wants to end his career at San Siro.
La Gazzetta dello Sport today claims that Atalanta have approached Milan goal machine Filippo Inzaghi over the past few days with a tentative offer to take him back to the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia, where he first shot to fame.
Inzaghi wore the Orobici colours in the 1996-97 season, making 33 appearances and netting 24 goals, which enabled him to claim the Capocannoniere crown. The striker is said to be very attached to the club and has a great rapport with president Enrico Ruggeri, who had suggested the ex-Juventus and Parma man see out his playing days in Bergamo before becoming the head coach.
But ‘Superpippo’ rejected the proposal and reiterated his desire to remain with Milan, who are also expected to offer him a position within the club once he decides to retire.
Inzaghi has been in superb form in recent weeks, scoring 11 goals in the last eight games, but there are fears he could sit out the big match with Juventus next weekend after picking up an ankle problem during a 2-0 win over Catania.
