Zarate is all but in the bag as the Romans prepare to make the deal official...

Lazio are expected to announce the signing of Mauro Zarate on a permanent deal from Qatar-based club Al-Sadd.

Il Corriere Dello Sport
claims Lazio chief Claudio Lotito was locked in talks through the night with the Arab club's directors. Ultimately, it is believed that the two parties reached a deal that they could both agree on. Unless there is a last minute hitch, the Aquile will officialise the accord later today.

Having paid Al-Sadd €4 million last year to take Zarate on loan, the report implies that Lotito will pay the Arab side a further €16m, which will be split into two blocks of €8m. The first payment will have to be made by July 2009 and the second will be made in July 2010.

Zarate has been in top form this season, and the Arabs had warned the Biancocelesti that signing their man would be even more expensive. However, it seems as if both sides have struck a fair deal for the player.
