The Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) runs tests on randomly chosen players following Serie A matches. The examinations following the April 5 encounter between Palermo and Torino at the Stadio Renzo Barbera indicated that cocaine was present in Carrozzieri's system. The Rosanero won the match 1-0.
Further testing will be conducted to confirm the results, but if they do hold up then the former Atalanta centre-back is likely to face a lengthy ban from football. Precedence indicates between 12 and 18 months.
The player has been linked with a move to a bigger club during the summer, with Milan and Roma both reportedly interested in acquiring his services. He has made 23 appearances in his first season at Palermo.
Carrozzieri has yet to make a statement responding to the accusations.
