Fiorentina defender Juan Manuel Vargas is still enjoying the euphoria of scoring his first goal for the Viola, which was influential is giving his side a narrow win over Cagliari.
Vargas made the points safe late on to keep his side on course for a place in the Champions League next season. The stopper is delighted with his strike - his first since joining from Catania last season.
"I am really happy with my goal," Vargas told RadioBlu. “I am very happy with what I have been doing.”
There were allegations of a major fight inside the tunnel between rival players following the final whistle. Vargas insists he was not aware of any trouble.
“I didn't see anything because I was already inside the anti-doping rooms," he claimed.
Cesare Prandelli was forced to make a few adjustments to his starting line-up against the Sardinians. Vargas played in midfield, but he doesn't mind the role.
"Playing in midfield is not a problem for me,” he explained. “I play where the coach wants me to."
The result leaves Fiorentina two points behind Genoa as they continue to hunt the final Champions League berth.
