Gattuso Believes Scudetto Race Is Over; Injuries Cost Milan

The injured hard-man believes that the Serie A title has already been decided, following the latest round of results.

Milan’s injured star Gennaro Gattuso could only watch from the sidelines at the weekend as his side struggled to a 2-0 victory over Lecce at the San Siro stadium.

Meanwhile, Juventus were held to a 3-3 draw by Chievo Verona, allowing Inter to extend their lead atop of the table to an impressive nine points, with just eight matches remaining in the season.

“The championship is finished. Inter will win the Scudetto,” Gattuso told the club’s official website.

Milan scored twice in stoppage time to emerge victorious against the promoted club. Philippe Senderos looked to have scored the first from a header on 91 minutes, although it was later credited to Ronaldinho as the Brazilian got the final touch.

Gattuso continued, “Senderos is a great guy and I am pleased that he was decisive on the weekend, even though the goal was rightfully attributed to Ronaldinho.

“Even though he has been missing for a long time because of injury, he deserved a performance like that, as a result of all of his hard work.”

As it has been well reported over the entirety of the season, the Rossoneri have been decimated by injury throughout the large majority of the campaign.

Gattuso said, “We have had an incredible amount of injuries to deal with over the past six or seven months, and in all departments of the field, something that can certainly explain our inconsistency at times.

“It goes without saying that some defensive reinforcements will definitely arrive at the end of the season.”

Milan’s next task is a tricky trip on the road this weekend, as they travel to Verona to face an inspired Chievo outfit.
