Brazilian Football Federation Issue Statement Over Inter’s Adriano

The CBF have stepped in to quash some of the wild rumours regarding the troubled Inter marksman…

Adriano: The Emperor is back in the headlines for the wrong reasons after phoning in sick for yesterday's traning session

Inter striker Adriano failed to return to Italy after taking part in Brazil's World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Peru. A number of rumours emerged over the weekend as the 27-year-old did not even answer calls from his agent or his mother.

Among other things, the Brazilian media alleged that he might have been kidnapped by a local gang.

The player’s representative, Gilmar Rinaldi, laughed off these stories last night and the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) has now moved to throw their support behind ‘Adri’.

“Adriano is with his family in Rio de Janeiro,” reads a statement on the CBF’s official website.

“The player has been in contact with [Brazil coach Carlos] Dunga and Inter directors, who were informed about the difficult time that he is going through.

“Contrary to all the different reports that have been circulating, he is in Rio de Janeiro with his family.”
