Napoli midfielder Samuele Dalla Bona agreed a mutual rescission of his contract in February, but the 28-year-old has failed to find another club since. Now the local media have been speculating that new Azzurri coach Roberto Donadoni has a high opinion of him and could decide to reintegrate him into the fold at the end of the season.

“It’s true, I have an agreement with [President Aurelio] De Laurentiis and [sporting director Pierpaolo] Marino,” Dalla Bona told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We shook hands and if I want I could go back in July. I loved it in Naples, I know that lots of fans keep me in high esteem and things have now changed.”

Napoli fired Edy Reja last month after a run of seven defeats in nine games and Dalla Bona admits the coach was the reason behind his decision to sever his ties with the club.

“I don’t regret my choice,” he stressed.

“I could not take it any longer, I am a footballer and I want to play. I didn’t want to throw away six more months, even though that’s what happened in the end.

“Napoli have understood me and are keeping their door open. If I will be in Donadoni’s plans and the club will want to respect that gentleman’s agreement, I will be happy to return.”

Napoli travel to Genoa to take on Sampdoria today hoping to continue their push to finish in the European qualification places.
