Report: Christian Vieri To Rescind Atalanta Contract

The former Italian international emptied out his locker yesterday and could sever his ties with the Orobici.

Christian Vieri gathered his stuff from the Atalanta training complex in Zingonia yesterday, said goodbye to his team-mates and drove away.

L’Eco di Bergamo claims that the other members of the squad tried to persuade him to stay, but he simply muttered, “Goodbye, I’m going.”

The ex-Inter star had already expressed his desire to leave the club last Saturday as the supporters jeered his every touch during a friendly match with Swiss side Bellinzona.

He had re-joined the Bergamaschi last summer after a single season spent at Fiorentina, but a vast number of fans angrily opposed the move because they felt he had betrayed the club the year before.

Vieri will not be at coach Luigi Del Neri’s disposal for the match against the Gigliati next weekend and La Gazzetta dello Sport reports this morning that he could meet with the Orobici directors over the next few days to mutually annul the contract.
