Simone Vergassola has hailed the performance of Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey, who held Siena at bay in a hotly contested encounter on Sunday afternoon.

The Bianconeri ended up losing the match 1-0 as the Viola obtained three precious points in their Champions League qualification race, and the visitors couldn't help feeling hard done by.

"We tried to win the game in every way, but we found ahead of us a great Frey," declared Vergassola, according to Fiorentinanews.com.

"There's regret and disappointment, but this does not give us points. The poor performance of Fiorentina is mainly due to Siena, who controlled the game, giving a good response following the defeat against Milan.

"We have ample possibilities of reaching survival, but now we will need, before playing well, to achieve points as soon as possible."

Siena still have a relatively good margin over the bottom three, as they are seven points clear with nine games left before the end of the season.
