Lazio Goalkeeper Muslera Discusses Personal Change In Fortunes
The shot-stopper is pleased he has managed to become a success in Italy after a poor start...
Fernando Muslera's Serie A career got off to a horrid start last season, when he suffered a baptism of fire. In one of his first appearances for Lazio, AC Milan put five goals past the Uruguayan at the Stadio Olimpico, two of them going in between his legs.
"Everything is in your head. If I thought that I had to dramatize those mistakes than I would have only made the situation worse," he explained, according to the Corierre dello Sport.
"I spoke with my family and they helped me move forward and have piece of mind. This happened with the team as well."
The 22-year-old has replaced Argentine international goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo as Delio Rossi's first choice shot-stopper this season.
"We must accept that this is Italian football, it is much faster, with higher quality players," said the former Nacional player.
"The same thing happened to me last year. At first people said I was the new [Gianluigi] Buffon, but I returned to the bench. In any case, I have an amazing friendship with Carrizo."
Muslera is currently suffering from a back injury and will likely miss out on his side's match against Catania on Saturday.
