Ezequiel Lavezzi: Napoli Needed A Change
‘El Pocho’ is relieved to have stopped the Partenopei’s slump and admits the players were to blame for Reja’s sacking.
Napoli put an end to their disastrous run of eight consecutive away defeats yesterday, as Argentine striker Ezequiel Lavezzi gifted his side a precious point away to Reggina to give new coach Roberto Donadoni an encouraging start.
The ex-Italy boss took over from Edy Reja last week, as the Vesuviani had picked up only two points from their last nine outings, dropping to mid-table after being in contention for a Champions League spot earlier in the season.
“I am happy with my goal, but most of all with the result we achieved,” Lavezzi told Sky Italia.
“We had to turn things around and we did. It’s only natural that a striker wants to score goals and I played much better after netting the equaliser.
“I am really sad about Reja being dismissed, because Napoli owe him a great deal after four years in charge. I think it is partly our fault, but perhaps the side needed a change.”
Napoli will host Milan at the Stadio San Paolo next Sunday.
