Milan may have put five goals past Siena, but two of them were particularly special.
They were goals number 299 and 300 of Filippo Inzaghi’s glittering career. And, unsurprisingly, he was overjoyed to have reached such a landmark.
“I feel just like a child," he told Sky Italia. "Last Sunday I took the match-ball home after my hat-trick and now I'll do the same because this is the day of my goal number 300.
“I wanted to write on the special 300 goal celebration shirt [that had been prepared for the occasion] ‘Thank you’ to all my teammates.
“I began scoring my first professional goal against Siena and scored my 300th against them too," gushed the 35-year-old.
Asked what his most important goals were, he answered, “When I scored twice in Athens in the Champions League Final, then again in the European Super Cup and World Championship in Yokohama.”
He also reminded the media that if things have gone badly for Italy in Europe in the last couple of weeks, that only makes the Rossoneri’s recent achievements all the more remarkable.
“Milan have done great things, reaching five finals and winning three of them. Like any Rossoneri fan, I'm happy to show how important our contribution to Italian football has been.”
Finally, he vowed to carry on troubling the back of the net for as long as he possibly can. No-one loves scoring goals quite as much as SuperPippo.
