Football lawyer and one-time Lazio president, Ugo Longo, has died aged 68, after succumbing to a long-standing illness.

Longo became the president of the club when they were on the verge of financial collapse in 2003 and will be remembered as the man who saved them from bankruptcy, before handing over to Claudio Lotito a year later.

Longo was also former Biancocelesti owner Sergio Cragnotti’s lawyer.

He was a hugely respected figure within the Italian game and has received tributes from all over the peninsula

Current Lazio captain, Tommaso Rocchi, sent his condolences to Longo's family through Il Corriere dello Sport.

“We are all sad he has died,” the striker said, “And our thoughts go out to his family.”

The club has also submitted a request to the league authorities that a minute’s silence be held before all Serie A games this week.

Rocchi concluded, “Apart from wearing a black armband, and the minute’s silence, I hope we can remember him in the best possible way, with a win against Chievo.”
