Napoli recently appointed the former coach of Italy, Roberto Donadoni, to replace Edy Reja at the helm. Having been at the club since back in 2005, Reja’s time was well and truly up due to disappointing results, this year in particular.

The new boss faces a difficult task if he is to turn their form around in the final 11 rounds of this season, and for that reason he has affirmed that European football is not the primary aim on his agenda.

“It makes no sense whatsoever to be discussing Europe at this point,” Donadoni told Mediaset.

“It’s all well and good to talk about our goals and objectives, however to actually act and achieve them is a different story.

“My ambition for the remainder of the season is clear. I want the players and the club to get the best out of themselves, something that does not necessarily mean qualifying for Europe next season.

“There are pressures everywhere in football, so I am not here to cause any problems with the club, or place any extra pressure on the players.

“Being in a place like this is very exciting for everyone, and together we must try to build something significant for the future.”

Donadoni’s first match in charge will be against the cellar dwellers Reggina this weekend, making it extremely likely that he will resume his coaching career in the best possible fashion.
