Milan finally ended their poor run of form with a resounding 3-0 win over Northern neighbours Atalanta thanks to a hat-trick from the evergreen Pippo Inzaghi.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti said the victory was down to Inzaghi's impeccable sense of positioning and coolness in front of goal.

"The team made the most of their opportunities. It's time we had a peaceful night, playing with confidence. Inzaghi gave us a helping hand," the Rossoneri tactician told Sky.

"Atalanta caused us difficulties in the first half, then Inzaghi's skill of finding the right position allowed us to close off the match. We were in distress, but we hope with this result the emergency is over."

Ancelotti has been coach of Milan since 2001, but there is plenty of speculation that he could be sacked at the end of this below par season.

"We've been talking about my departure for a few years now," joked the ex-Parma boss.

"I am only concerned because at the moment we are not playing well, we must improve quickly and that can happen if we retrieve some of our [injured] players. I want to stay at Milan and I hope to make that happen by securing third place."

Furthermore, Ancelotti discussed midfielder David Beckham's deal that will see him remain with the Milanese giants until June.

"He will stay with us until the end of the championship. Then, in November, we will see [what happens]. Beckham told the side that he realized this was a dream for him and it was a source of pride to play for Milan."

Ancelotti will hope for a similar result next weekend, when Siena host the Rossoneri at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
