Juventus striker Amauri's chances of playing for Italy have increased significantly after his wife Cynthia received Italian citizenship on Tuesday morning.

Cynthia swore the oath in Palermo and she is now an Italian citizen. Her Passport will follow within the next few days, and La Gazzetta Dello Sport claims proceedings will get underway for Amauri to follow suit.

The Juventus striker is now free to apply for his own Italian passport, but reports suggest it will take around six months for the whole process to be completed. Amauri has always revealed his penchant to play for Italy and he will be able to get closer to fulfilling his ambition should he apply for citizenship.

However, the final decision will rest with Italy coach Marcello Lippi. The coach has expressed divided opinion over the Brazilian-born star, but the latest developments could re-open the Azzurri door.

Gazzetta have also gone as far as to claim that Amauri could take part in the Confederations Cup if all progresses quickly.
