Roma vented their fury at referee Nicola Rizzoli after Sunday night’s clash with Inter at San Siro. The Lupi saw the Nerazzurri come from two goals down to earn a dramatic 3-3 draw in Milan.

The Eternal City outfit were livid at the debatable penalty awarded to Inter’s teenage striker, Mario Balotelli, at a stage the guests were still leading 3-1. The Giallorossi felt this moment was the turning point of the game.

‘Super Mario’ went down in the box after being sandwiched between Daniele De Rossi and Marco Motta, but the contact with either one seemed minimal.

And the Corriere dello Sport reports this morning that the mistake could prove costly for Rizzoli. Refereeing designator Pierluigi Collina could keep him away from the Giallorossi colours for some time by resting him for one or two games before resuming officiating in Serie B.

Rizzoli was at the centre of another controversy last year, but Roma were the beneficiaries on that occasion as the referee did not show Francesco Totti a straight red card after the Lupi captain hurled abuse at him during the game with Udinese.
