Jose Alberti: Napoli Side Is Badly Built
South American football expert Jose Alberti believes it is unjust to put all the blame for Napoli's current woes on manager Edy Reja's shoulders...
Thing's can't really get any worse for Napoli coach Edy Reja. But he has, at least, been given assurances that tonight's game against Juventus will not be the one that decides his future. And now, as he prepares for the long trip to Turin, he has also received some much-needed support from a much-respected source.
During an interview with TuttoMecatoWeb, South American football analyst Jose Alberti said Reja is not to blame for Napoli's slide down the Serie A table before launching into a ferocious attack on the whole management system Reja is working under at the southern club.
“The city has expressed its dissatisfaction with [the owner] Aurelio De Laurentiis and [sporting director Pierpaolo] Marino, and I think they have a point.
“De Laurentiis has been accused of talking a lot, but doing little, and Marino has got some transfers wrong.
“For example, in January they bought Jesus Datolo, who is an almost exact copy of Mariano Bogliacino, when what they needed was a striker like [Gianpaolo] Pazzini.
"They also bought a keeper of great experience, in Luca Bucci, and I would play him straight away, instead of Nicolas Navarro.
“There is no point calling press conferences or taking the team away from the media on retreat,” Alberti concluded. “The side was built badly, and they are tired because of the Intertoto Cup they played early in the season.”
