The troubles in the relationship between Christian Panucci and Roma have been clear for all to see of late. I Lupi’s coach Luciano Spalletti has spoken of the right-back’s possible departure at the end of the season.

On the other side, the man himself has issued a formal apology to club and to fans for his recent behaviour, and everything seemed to be cleared up. But reports from the Italian peninsular have persisted with the refrain that all is not well and, despite pledges of goodwill from both parties, some believe the 35-year-old will not be training at Trigoria after the summer.

The latest to speak out is ex-Roma striker Marco Delvecchio, who urged the team from the capital to take their time and not make any rash decisions.

Marco told the Roma Channel, “I am on the outside now, and I would think twice before getting rid of Panucci.

“I am not just saying that because we are friends, but because Christian has given a lot to Roma, and he has often saved them, pulling them back from the brink.

“If someone has that kind of instinctive character, some unfortunate things can happen," he suggested. “As long as they are not repeated, I don’t think it is so bad.”
