Milan Are Too Old – Marco van Basten
The current coach of Ajax believes that his former team are too old to be a dominant force in Europe.
Marco van Basten and his Ajax side are in Italy at the moment, as they prepare for their UEFA Cup Round of 32 clash with Fiorentina tomorrow. On the eve of that particular match, the Dutch coach has had some interesting comments to make, in regards to his former team Milan, a club he made 147 appearances for and scored 90 goals for along the way.
“From the bottom of my heart I can honestly say that it is always nice to see Milan play,” van Basten declared in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.
“However having seen them lately, I get the impression that they are a little too old to dominate like we used to.
“It’s a Milan side that are completely different to when I played.
“Back then we were always favourites for the championship.
“Nowadays it is Inter that commands the championship, and that is very disappointing to see,” the Ajax coach concluded.
Van Basten’s Ajax get their match with Fiorentina underway at 20:45 CET at the Artemio Franchi stadium.
