Ancelotti: We Want To Win The UEFA Cup

The draw for the UEFA Cup group stage has just taken place, and already AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti has come out and publically declared his ambitions for the competition.

No Problem: Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti still full of confidence despite his side's shaky start to the season.
The draw for the group stage of the 2008/09 UEFA Cup has just taken place in Nyon, the headquarters of the UEFA organization.

AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti had this to say, following the completion of the draw: “we want to win the tournament, and we must start well.”

The coach certainly has faith in his side’s ability to get off to a good start in the competition, and he went on to add that “the main challenges will be the last two games against Portsmouth and Wolfsburg,” which certainly will be decisive encounters for the Rossoneri.

They were expecting a relatively tough group, and it has proven to be the case, as Ancelotti believes a group consisting of a team from the Premier League and the Bundesliga is never going to be an easy task, along with sides from the Portuguese and Dutch leagues respectively.

The Milan boss went on to respond to comments made by the coach of Wolfsburg, Felix Magath, who claimed that his side is “happy to face Milan.” Ancelotti said that “it will be a great opportunity for the younger players in particular, to meet with high-level opponents, allowing for further growth and development of the team.”

On paper, it seems as if the Italian giants will have their work cut out to qualify, as they have been grouped in Group E alongside Heerenveen, Braga, Portsmouth and Wolfsburg. However the club and their tifosi will surely be confident of qualification.

The competition gets underway in around two weeks time, and after having made such comments, Ancelotti will be desperate for a winning start to the competition.
