• VOLKSWAGEN ARENA, Wolfsburg
Referee: M. Gräfe
• Attendance: 30000
S. Riether 86'
T. Müller 7'
So that's it from Wolfsburg this afternoon. Hope you enjoyed what turned out to be a fascinating encounter. However a draw doesn't suit either side with both needing wins to climb the table. Be sure to check out all the other Bundesliga action this afternoon on Goal.com. I've been Luke Matthews, thank you for joining me. Auf Wiedersehen!
FULL-TIME! It finishes 1-1 here which on the balance of play is probably a fair result. A fantastic game of football here at the Volkswagen Arena which could have gone either way in the end. Mueller's controversial goal put die Roten 1-0 up early on before both side's then missed penalties. Wolfsburg had to wait until the 86th minute for an equaliser through Riether which hands die Woelfe their seventh league draw in a row! A draw for Bayern combined with Dortmund's victory over Leverkusen last time all but rules van Gaal's men out of the title race.
90' + 3'
Robben whips in a great ball and Schweinsteiger's fine header is met by an even finer save. Goalkick given for some reason though. Surely that's the final chance of the game?
90' + 1'
It is now Wolfsburg who are pushing for a winner but Kahlenberg's delivery is poor. The home team could have done with Diego whipping a ball into the box then but the Brazilian has been replaced.
DISALLOWED GOAL FOR BAYERN! Robben cuts in and unleashes a great shot that Benaglio can only parry into the path of Mueller. The World Cup Golden Boot winner smashes it into the net but the linesman's flag is up. It's a close one but Mueller was marginally offside.
Can Bayern get back into this one? They only have a few minutes remaining plus injury time.
Assist Marcel Schäfer
Goal Sascha Riether
TOR WOLFSBURG! Poor defending by Schweinsteiger on the left allows Schaefer to disposses the midfielder and play a brilliant ball along the six yard box with Riether on cue to tap the ball into an empty net.
Again Robben cuts in from the right, can any left-back stop him doing this? Anyways, he cuts in and unleashes a powerful effort at goal but it's straight down the throat of Benaglio who catches the bsall after letting it bounce.
Good run forward by Cicero who then plays the ball to Grafite 25 yards out. However the striker appears leggy and is easily dispossesed by a composed looking Breno.
Luis Gustavo has only been on the pitch for 10 minutes or so but already his signing looks an astute piece of business. His tackling has been top-notch and he is passing it well.
Robben is brought down by a clumsy Mandzukic challenge. Lucky to stay on the pitch considering he has already picked up a yellow.
Both sides appear to be tiring a little. However there are several players on this pitch who can create that little moment of magic from nowhere. 13 minutes left plus added time.
Diego has a great opportunity to level the scoring but his 25 yard free-kick narrowly misses the target as Kraft dives but lets it go out for a goalkick.
Riether is put through for Wolfsburg but Kraft is equal to the effort and turns it around the post for a corner.
Bayern look the most likely team to score at the moment with Friedrich tackling Robben to put the ball out for a corner.
BAYERN SHOULD BE 2-0 UP! The away team have plenty of players in the box as Robben's ball across the box just does not sit up right for Gomez who fails to control it from six yards. The tall forward is cutting a frustrated figure at the moment.
Robben is seeing a lot of the ball in this second half. He does look lively but it's obvious he has been out all season, a little rust around the edges.
Grafite is nearly in for Wolfsburg but a brilliant interception by Pranjic stops the Brazilian from being one on one with the impressive Kraft.
Great challenge by Friedrich on Robben. The German international is actually making his Wolfsburg debut today despite joining the club in the summer. A spate of injury problems have kept the experienced defender out but he's back and close to his best by the looks of things.
All I can say is typical Robben. The ex-Real Madrid man cuts in-field and smashes a shot towards the top corner of Benaglio's goal. However the Swiss 'keeper does very well to turn the ball around the post for a Bayern corner.
Yellow Card Josué
BRILLIANT SAVE FROM KRAFT! Diego whips in a great ball from a corner and Mandzukic gets plenty of power on his header. However Kraft acrobatically tips the ball over the box. Bayern really do have a future star on their hands by the looks of things. Who needs Neuer?
Robben goes on one of his mazy runs in-field and is eventually brought down by Mandzukic on the edge of the area. The Dutchman strikes the free-kick (five yards further out than where he was fouled) but Benaglio is equal to the shot that was straight at him.
Very good defending by Josue who intercepts a Mueller ball into the box as an unmarked Robben is ready to pull the trigger.
Yellow Card Holger Badstuber
Yellow card for Badstuber as the defender brings down Grafite 30 yards out. From the resulting free-kick Diego's cross is met by Kjaer and narrowly misses the target but the flag is up for offside.
Bayern come close! The Wolfsburg box resembles a pinball machine as the ball pings around with Mueller's unable to get on the end of a Robben ball despite being at full stretch.
Wolfsburg get us back underway here. Can the home team get back into this one or will Bayern get that second goal to give themselves some breathing space?
Can Steve McClaren's men get level in this one. The signs looked very positive in the final 10 minutes of the first-half with the home team coming close on a number of occasions. Again, I have to say, what a game. We have seen a goal that shouldn't have counted, a penalty hitting the post, a Wolfsburg goal disallowed which could have very well been given and one of THE great penalty saves. Oh and the return of Robben and departure of Ribery. I need a breather.
HALF-TIME! THAT'S WHY WE LOVE THE BUNDESLIGA! Fantastic half of football. At times Bayern looked like running away with it but Wolfsburg have dug deep and are very unlucky to be heading into the interval a goal down, courtesy of a Thomas Mueller goal. Lets hope the second-half is as entertaining as the first.
45' + 3'
Penalty save Thomas Kraft
45' + 3'
Missed Penalty Grafite
45' + 3'
PENALTY SAVED! ONE OF THE BEST PENALTY SAVES YOU WILL SEE ALL SEASON! Grafite hits the ball high with power but Kraft somehow manages to tip the ball onto the bar. WOW!
45' + 2'
PENALTY WOLFSBURG! Badstuber apparently brings down Dejagah but it looks very harsh.
45' + 1'
UNLUCKY WOLFSBURG! Again Diego whips in a decent ball and Grafite flicks the ball goalwards with his head. Kraft is stranded but the ball narrowly misses the target.
Yellow Card Bastian Schweinsteiger
CLOSE AGAIN FOR WOLFSBURG WITH BAYERN ROCKING! Grafite slides in a great looking ball to Diego who is one on one with Kraft. His low effort isn't the best but Kraft does very well to block the shot.
WOLFSBURG GOAL! OR NOT ACTUALLY! Diego whips in a ball goalwards from the left and the ball appears to hit the leg of Kraft and go into the net. Wolfsburg players believe they have scored but the linesman's flag is up. Apparently Cicero was in an offside position.
Another cheap free-kick given away by Bayern. Diego has the opportunity to wreak havoc.
Some good play by Tymoshchuk and Pranjic plays van Bommel in on the edge of the area who blasts the ball several yards over the bar.
WASTEFUL FROM GOMEZ! Horrible defending from Wolfsburg puts the striker through on goal who hesitates before seeing his effort blocked well by Friedrich.
SO CLOSE FOR WOLFSBURG! Great ball into the box by Diego and Dejagah comes very close to redeeming himself but his flicked header bounces off the bar.
Decent chance for Wolfsburg to get the ball into the box after Tymoshchuk brings down Riether on the right.
Gomez is certainly threatening to get league goal number 13 today. This time Robben whips in a low ball into the box with Mueller nonchantly flicking the ball into the direction of Gomez. The German international is at full-stretch but fails to get onto the ball six yards out.
The tempo in this one has slowed down a little. Both sides needing a breather after an explosive start.
Looking back at the Bayern goal it probably should not have counted. The away side were awarded a free-kick for a foul in the box but when Kraft played a long-ball to Mueller, the ball was moving. Very controversial.
Wolfsburg seeing a little more of the ball at the moment but still waiting to create a real opportunity. Diego will need to stand up and be counted if the home side are going to get back into this one.
This is what the Bundesliga is all about. Fast-paced, high quality with a good amount of physicality.
BAD NEWS FOR BAYERN! Ribery cannot continue and is replaced by Robben. Bittersweet moment for the away supporters who will be delighted to see the return of Robben but not in these circumstances.
Missed Penalty Philipp Lahm
PENALTY MISSED BY LAHM! The full-back looks confident and strikes it well but the ball rebounds off the inside of the post and to safety. Major let off for Wolfsburg who have been under the kosh since Bayern's opener.
PENALTY BAYERN! Dejagah sticks his leg out and takes down the quick footed Pranjic. Definite penalty.
CLOSE AGAIN FOR BAYERN! From the resulting corner Badstuber curls the ball nearpost and Mueller's header is turned over the bar for another corner.
Very close again from Bayern. Great play down the left from Pranjic sees the Croatian play a low ball into the box. Mueller does excellent to dummy the ball with van Bommel running in behind him. The Dutch midfielder takes a touch befor firing in a low effort that is blocked well by Friedrich and turned round the post for a corner.
UHOH! Ribery is struggling after being caught late by Josue The French winger is currently receiving treatment for an injured ankle on the touchline.
Bayern are certainly knocking for a second. This time Schweinsteiger gets into the box and whips in a low ball along the six yard line. Unfortunately for the Bavarians, Gomez and co cannot get onto the end of it but major warning signs for the die Wolfe here.
Great challenge by Kjaer. Gomez is played the ball into the box by Schweinsteiger and looks to take a snapshot from 15 yards out. However the young Danish defender does brilliantly to slide and block the ball.
Bayern have settled well now and are currently passing the ball around the pitch with confidence. Wolfsburg need to keep it to a one goal deficit now. Another Bayern goal would kill their confidence.
Fantastic start to the game by Bayern putting Steve McClaren's job under immense pressure. Unlucky for Wolfsburg who have actually made a decent start to the game.
Goal Thomas Müller
TOR BAYERN!!!! WHAT A CRAZY GOAL! Brilliant play from Kraft who plays a quick long ball up the field. Wolfsburg are struggling to get back after wasting a corner. Mueller chases the ball down and gets past Friedrich but it appears Benaglio will intercept the ball. However the Swiss shotstopper smashes the ball off Mueller's leg just outside his area and watches on in embarassment as the ball rolls into the net.
MASSIVE CHANCE FOR GOMEZ! The ball is whipped into the near-post by Pranjic and instinctively Gomez flicks the ball towards goal from six yards out but the ball rebounds off the bar. Very unlucky.
Yellow Card Mario Mandzukic
The first yellow of the game goes to the young Croatian Mandzukic. The striker who's playing on the left today comes in late on Bayern captain Lahm. With Dzeko gone now is the chance for the ex-Dinamo man to step up.
Not much happening in the early exchanges but it's worth noting that the pitch looks in a terrible state. How will this effect today's game?
We're underway here at the Volkswagen Arena with the home side wearing all white and Bayern in their dark blue away kit.
Big day today for Bayern's debutant 'keeper Kraft. The 22-year-old has been given a huge vote of confidence by van Gaal who has stated the youngster is now his first choice man between the sticks for the remainder of the season.
Very intriguing tie we have on our hands here. The champions from the last two Bundesliga seasons meet in a game that both sides are under immense pressure to get a positive result from. Wolfsburg will surely miss Dzeko but the 4-2-3-1 formation they go with today should suit them a little more. Bayern welcome back Badstuber at the back so Tymoshchuk moves into midfield.
Bayern Munich: Kraft, Lahm, Breno, Badstuber, Pranjic, van Bommel, Tymoshchuk, Mueller, Schweinsteiger, Ribery, Gomez
Wolfsburg: Benaglio, Riether, Kjaer, Friedrich, Schaefer, Josue, Cicero, Dejagah, Diego, Mandzukic, Grafite
