  • I'm Chris Baker and thanks very much for joining me this afternoon. The Premier League is back with a bang! Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
  • On the otherhand what a dream start for Pochettino. A win in his first game in charge away from home against their London rivals. What will probably have pleased the Spurs Head Coach the most was the attitude and application from his players. Their commitment and desire was often questioned last season but this was a display of real character in difficult circumstances.
  • Sam Allardyce will be bitterly disappointed to have lost after watching his side put in a spirited display which on another day could have quite easily been enough to earn his side all three points. There are certainly plenty of positives to take from a West Ham point of view but they won't be thinking about that at this moment in time. Cresswell, Kouyate and Valencia all put in good displays on their debuts.
  • 90' + 5'
And that's it full time! It finishes 1-0 to Tottenham after a dramatic finale at Upton Park. What an eventful game to start the season with.
  • 90' + 4'
Heartbreak for the home side who will feel that they deserve a point at the very least for their efforts.
  • 90' + 3'
    Assist Harry Kane
  • 90' + 3'
    Goal Eric Dier
GOAL! Eric Dier has scored on his debut. The full back broke the offside trap and was expertly played in by a slide rule pass from Kane. The youngster showed great calmness to take the ball around Adrian and then roll it into an empty net. Delirium for the travelling fans.
  • 90' + 2'
    Yellow Card Cheikhou Kouyaté
The referee has indicated that there will be four minutes of added time. Kouyate then bundles over Harry Kane to earn himself a booking.
  • 89'
SAVE! Tottenham work the ball to Nabil Bentaleb on the edge of the area and the young Algerian fires in a rasping shot at the West Ham goal but it is easily pushed away by Adrian. It was at a nice height for the 'keeper.
  • 87'
CHANCE! Downing goes one-on-one with Lloris after being played in by Kevin Nolan's intelligent backheel but the winger can't lift the ball high enough over the the keeper who makes a fantastic save. The ball almost gets bundled over the line in the immediate aftermath but Capoue hacks the ball away from goal. So close to a dramatic winner for West Ham.
  • 85'
It's end-to-end stuff at the moment. Harry Kane had a shot blocked when perhaps he would have been better off using Danny Rose who had made a great run to his left. In reply Downing tries to pick out Valencia at the back post but his cross is over hit and goes out for a goal kick.
  • 84'
Valencia does very well to win a corner after tussling with Etienne Capoue. Noble fizzes the corner into the area but Lloris comes through the crowd and punches the ball away to safety.
  • 83'
    Substitution Emmanuel Adebayor Harry Kane
  • 82'
Spurs make their third and final change of the afternoon with Harry Kane coming on to replace Emmanuel Adebayor. Both sides are going for it but can anyone find a winner?
  • 81'
    Substitution Carlton Cole E. Valencia
  • 80'
Ask and you shall receive. Allardyce answers the calls of his supporters and Enner Valencia comes on for Cole, the summer signing receives great applause as he enters the fray.
  • 78'
The Upton Park faithful are calling for Enner Valencia to be brought on for the final few minutes of this match. Carlton Cole has worked extremely hard for the home side but hasn't had a clear sight of goal in the second half.
  • 75'
Diame is the next player to try his luck from outside the area but the substitute can only drag his shot wide from about 20 yards out.
  • 71'
SAVE! Mark Noble dispossess Younes Kaboul and drives towards the Tottenham goal. Noble hits a low shot but his strike is comfortably saved by Hugo Lloris. That forray forward from West ham was a welcomed moment of relief after a period of sustained pressure from the visitors.
  • 69'
Fantastic save from Adrian to tip Townsend's right footed shot over the bar. The England winger has been very bright since coming on. Spurs look the more likely to score at the moment.
  • 68'
Substitution Ricardo Vaz Te Mohamed Diame
  • 66'
The sending off has really livened Tottenham up and perhaps given them some belief that they can go on and win this game. Vaz Te has been replaced by Mohamed Diame. This match is really on a knife edge, if either team can get in front you feel it would be decisive at this stage.
  • 64'
The pitch invaders attempt on the West Ham goal was significantly better than Eriksen's. The Danish playmaker whipped his effort at goal with pace but it was always rising high over Adrian's crossbar.
  • 63'
    Yellow/Red James Collins
RED CARD! James Collins receives his marching orders after obstructing Adebayor on the edge of the penalty area. Ten men a piece. Dangerous position for a freekick with Eriksen and Townsend standing over the ball but before they can take the set piece a pitch invader comes onto the field of play and boots the ball before being taken out by numerous stewards. This game is anything but dull.
  • 62'
    Substitution Joey O'Brien Guy Demel
  • 61'
    Substitution Aaron Lennon Andros Townsend
Double change for Tottenham as Lewis Holtby and Andros Townsend come on for Lennon and Lamela. West Ham also take the opportunity to make a sub by bringing on Guy Demel for Joey O'Brien.
  • 61'
    Substitution Erik Lamela Lewis Holtby
  • 58'
Spurs finally spring into life as an attacking force as Rose bursts forward on the overlap and his ball across the face of goal almost finds Lennon in the six yard box but the midfielder can't get on the end of it and West Ham clear the danger.
  • 56'
West Ham have an injury concern as Aaron Creswell looks in some discomfort after falling awkwardly. The home side force another corner as O'Brien's cross is deflected out off of Danny Rose. Downing takes the resulting set piece but his corner is too long and it evades everyone to drift out of play for a goal kick.
  • 54'
    Yellow Card James Collins
James Collins picks up the games first yellow card as he hauls back Erik Lamela as Spurs tried to lauch a counter attack. It was a pretty cynical challenge from the Welsh centre half.
  • 52'
Stinging shot from Stewart Downing as he cuts in from the right onto his favoured left foot and drives the ball goalwards. Lloris parries the effort and then has to react quickly to flick the ball away from the onrushing West Ham forwards following up.
  • 50'
West Ham have had plenty of the ball in the last couple of minutes without really looking like scoring. Both full backs are staying wide and the home team are making the pitch as wide as possible to stretch the ten men of Tottenham. Patience may well be the key for the Hammers.
  • 47'
Excellent block from James Collins to stop Eriksen's shot troubling Adrian in goal. It's the first time in the second period that Tottenham have mounted an attack. West Ham have begun the strongly and Carlton Cole continues to give the Spurs back four problems.
  • 46'
Tottenham get the second half underway and they will be attacking the end where their supporters are gathered. No changes yet for either side.
  • Mauricio Pochettino will have been very happy to hear the half time whistle and get his players into the changing room to regroup. The way the first half has gone I think the new Tottenham Head Coach would be delighted to come away from this match with a point.
  • 45'
And there is the half time whistle 0-0. How there hasn't been a goal so far, particularly for the home side is beyond me. Sam Allardyce will be happy with his teams approach playing but a bit of composure in front of goal is needed if West Ham are to take the lead in the match.
  • 44'
Spurs have dropped off a little here as they look to get through to half time at 0-0.
  • 42'
Straight down the other end come West Ham and Vaz Te is again in the thick of the action as he gets on the end of a cross from the right wing but his header is down into the turf and easy for Lloris to deal with. The Hammers must be wondering how they aren't ahead in this match.
  • 40'
Chance for Tottenham as Lamela steals the ball from Noble in the middle of the park, the Argentinian then picks out Adebayor with a flighted cross. The Spurs centre forward in turn lays the ball off to Lennon who gets his shot away but can only find the roof of Adrian's net with his strike.
  • 36'
CHANCE! Once again Vaz Te finds himself completely unmarked at the back post from a Noble corner but the Portuguese attacker can only smash his shot well wide of goal. That was a real opportunity for West Ham to take the lead and Vaz Te should have done a lot better. Spurs still under the cosh here. Can the home side find the breakthrough before the interval?
  • 34'
Spurs have reacted to Naughton's dismissal by dropping Etienne Capoue into the centre of defence. Eric Dier has moved to right back and Tottenham have adopted a 4-4-1 formation.
  • 32'
Great defending from the young left back Aaron Cresswell who takes the ball off the toes of Emmanuel Adebayor who wouldv'e had a clean sight of goal. The chance had been created by Eriksen breaking through the West Ham defensive line after a one-two with the Togolese striker.
  • 30'
    Missed Penalty Mark Noble
PENALTY MISSED! Would you believe it?! The usually reliable spotkick taker Mark Noble has dragged his penalty wide of the post. What a let off for the visitors.
  • 29'
    Red Card Kyle Naughton
  • 27'
PENALTY TO WEST HAM! Kevin Nolan's goal bound half volley is handled by Kyle Naughton who is given a straight red card.
  • 25'
CHANCE! Another good cross from the right wing is met by Kouyate but his glancing header flashes past Lloris' goal. If the midfielder had managed to get his header on target then France's number one would have had absolutely no chance of stopping it.
  • 23'
Mark Noble's inswinging delivery from the left is a good one and causes Tottenham problems. The ball eventually falls to Ricardo Vaz Te at the back post but he can only slice his shot back into the crowded six-yard box. A set piece is certainly looking like West Ham's most likely route to goal.
  • 20'
The home side are starting to pin their opponents back and control proceedings. West Ham are keeping the ball well and are searching for an opening. Cheikhou Kouyate makes a darting run down the right and wins a corner for his side.
  • 17'
West Ham are beginning to get a foothold in the match and seeing more of the ball in midfield areas. It's Downing once again causing Tottenham problems down their left hand side, the winger gets down to the byline but can't squeeze his cut back past Eric Dier at the near post. Tottenham aren't looking massively comfortable defensively when the ball is chucked into the penalty area.
  • 14'
Almost a chance for Cole as Stewart Downing makes a surging run down the right wing but his cross is just behind the striker who can't bring the ball under his spell and Kyle Naughton does well to mop up after Younes Kaboul had misjudged the flight of the ball. Much more like it from West Ham.
  • 11'
Both manager's will be relatively happy with the opening minutes to this match with neither goalkeeper seriously tested. The game hasn't really settled into a rhythm as of yet with possession being squandered far too easily. It's a bit scrappy at the moment.
  • 8'
James Collins dumps Lennon to the turf with a unnecessary tackle from behind. Eriksen goes for goal from the resulting freekick but the Dane's low shot is easily gathered by Adrian.
  • 7'
Both teams are playing with a lot of intensity as you would expect in a derby match. West Ham seem reasonably content to soak up the pressure before trying to hit Spurs on the counter attack.
  • 5'
Carlton Cole has the first shot of the game from the left hand side of the box but his effort curls harmlessly over Hugo Lloris' goal. Positive play though from the West Ham striker.
  • 3'
Tottenham have enjoyed the majority of possession so far with Aaron Lennon and Christian Eriksen wasting good crossing opportunities from either flank in the early stages.
  • 1'
West Ham get us under way! Both sides are in their traditional strips. The atmosphere inside Upton Park is absolutely electric.
  • The players are ready and kick off is just moments away...
  • West Ham hand debuts to Aaron Creswell and Cheikhou Kouyate while other new boys Diego Poyet, Mauro Zarate and Enner Valencia are waiting in the wings. As far as Tottenham are concerned Eric Dier is the only new face in the starting eleven but Erik Lamela will probably feel like a debutant as well. Ben Davies is on the bench as Danny Rose continues at left back.
  • West Ham will be hoping that they can continue their recent good form against their local rivals which saw them defeat Spurs three times last season in all competitions. Mauricio Pochettino on the other hand will want to get off to a positive start in his first competitive game in charge of the north Londoners.
  • Tottenham Hotspur (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Naughton, Kaboul, Dier, Rose; Capoue, Bentaleb; Lennon, Lamela, Eriksen; Adebayor.Subs: Friedel, Dawson, Davies, Holtby, Townsend, Soldado and Kane.
