Live Commentary

  • That's your lot from me folks, I've been Kev Blundell and it's been a pleasure taking you through all of today's action. Until next time...
  • All-in-all, it was an entertaining match here at Upton Park. Plenty of goalmouth action, leading to lots of talking points and drama, coupled with another memorable victory for the Hammers that sees them maintain their position in the top-half of the Premier League table.
  • Rather than blame the officials, Pochettino should be looking at his players who seemed to let their heads drop after the second West Ham goal - not a trait usually attached to sides looking to break in to the European places.
  • Pochettino will be disappointed with his side today, but will more than likely blame the defeat on the decisions of Mark Clattenburg who failed to award his side several weak penalty claims.
  • That was a great display of determination by Sam Allardyce's men. The Hammers looked down and out when Yoshida nodded home for Southampton early on, but they managed to fight back and secure their fourth successive win in the Premier League.
  • 90' + 3'
Southampton press for a late consolation, but West Ham continue to break up the play and frustrate the opposition. Clattenburg puts the Lallana and co. out of their misery and blows the whistle to signal full time.
  • 90' + 1'
Another handball shout by turned down by Mark Clattenburg and this time it's Noble being questioned. Pochettino can't believe his luck, he feels his side have had four or five key decisions go against them today.
  • 89'
Southampton are awarded a free kick right on the edge of the box and Ramirez wins the right to take it despite this looking like a perfect position for Ward-Prowse to test Adrian. The Uruguayan goes close, but it would have suited a right footed player more.
  • 87'
    Yellow Card Adam Lallana
  • 87'
Noble has been outstanding in the centre of the park today. This time he works back to win the ball from Lallana, and the Southampton skipper is so frustrated he pulls Noble back - earning himself a yellow card in the process.
  • 86'
Close shave! Southampton almost find a way back into the game after Rodriguez battles for the ball on the edge of the box before unleashing a volley that dips just wide of the right post.
  • 84'
West Ham certainly haven't been the better side technically speaking today, but Allardyce won't care about that. His side have put in a monumental shift today and worked so hard for what looks set to be another vital victory.
  • 81'
Great play by Lallana on the edge of the West Ham box - he isn't giving up yet. The England international dances past two players with some neat footwork before firing in a low shot that Adrian does well to turn behind for a corner.
  • 79'
Woodwork! It just hasn't been Southampton's day. This time it's Diame who nearly adds to West Ham's tally - the midfielder breaks free from his man and powers in a wonderful effort from 25-yards out that cannons back off the bar.
  • 78'
    SubstitutionRickie Lambert Sam Gallagher
  • 78'
    SubstitutionSteven Davis James Ward-Prowse
  • 77'
West Ham are really frustrating Southampton now. Allardyce has set his team up to not concede another and not give the Saints a chance of getting back into this game - and it's paying off. Rodriguez gives away a needless free kick in the West Ham half.
  • 75'
Rickie Lambert lines up a free kick from 35-yards out, but the striker's effort is weak and is dealt with comfortably by Adrian in the West Ham goal who barely has to move.
  • 73'
    SubstitutionKevin Nolan Winston Reid
  • 73'
That goal was Nolan's last kick of the game as he makes his way of the pitch and is replaced by last season's Player of the Year winner, Winston Reid.
  • 71'
    Assist C. Cole
  • 71'
    Goal Kevin Nolan
GOAL! Kevin Nolan finds the back of the net against all the odds to put the game out of Southampton's reach. A ball into the Saints box causes confusion and falls to Nolan in the six-yard-box who attempts a bicycle kick that comes off to see him score on his 100th appearance for the club.
  • 70'
Lallana should have done better there! Great link-up play between Lambert and Rodriguez in the middle of the park before Lallana breaks free, but the forward lashes his shot wide of the post from outside the area. No composure.
  • 68'
It's all Southampton at the moment (67% possession), the home side have barely had a sniff in the second half, but if the scores remain the same then Allardyce won't care.
  • 66'
Gaston Ramirez make an instant impact on the game. The creative midfielder comes deep to get the ball, he takes on one player before nutmeggting another, and then rifles his shot just over Adrian's bar. Great effort.
  • 64'
Luke Shaw bursts forward down the left and links up well with Lallana. The full back gets into the box and plays a one-two with Lallana, but his final pass is just in front of his team-mate.
  • 63'
    SubstitutionJack Cork G. Ramírez
  • 62'
Mark Noble does well to win a free kick in the middie of the park as Rodriguez pushes the West Ham midfielder to the ground. You've got to wonder why Noble is never linked with a call-up to the England squad, his discipline and organisational skills would be a great addition to the international scene.
  • 60'
West Ham have been really solid at the back after the opening 10 minutes today. Sam Allardyce has done a great job in turning things around at Upton Park and he will be delighted to come away with a win here, especially without Andy Carroll.
  • 57'
    SubstitutionMatt Jarvis Mohamed Diame
  • 57'
Yoshida takes a risk by tackling Taylor inside the box and it's West Ham's turn to call for a penalty, but Mark Clattenburg waves away the appeal immediately. It turns out to be the correct decision as the replay shows it to be a perfectly timed tackle.
  • 56'
Great save by Adrian! But it's offside anyway. A great move by Southampton who don't try and force the matter like they did in the first half, and Schneiderlin is played through and hits a cracking shot across the goal, only to be pulled up by the linesman.
  • 53'
Penalty shout for the Saints! The ball is fizzed into the box and ricochets off Collins' arm - it would have been harsh to give it. Pochettino is fuming on the touchline, though, and is counting the number of times his side haven't got decisions today. A little paranoid, maybe.
  • 52'
West Ham sitting really deep in the opening stages of the second half, clearly looking to preserve their lead. It's working well as Southampton are forced to shoot from way out, or not at all.
  • 50'
The away side get forward again, and Lallana is right at the heart of it - twisting and turning on the edge of the box before his blocked shot falls to Chambers on the edge of the box. The 19-year-old has a drive from distance, but his shot goes way over.
  • 48'
Southampton make a lively start to the second half and piece together a flowing move, but Schneiderlin can't make anything of it as he surges towards the Hammers' box before playing a woeful pass to absolutely no-one. Shocking stuff.
  • 46'
Back underway at Upton Park. Can Southampton get back into this game, or will West Ham hold on for their fourth Premier League win in a row?
  • West Ham have gone from strength to strength since going ahead and despite not creating many chances since their second goal, they've looked  comfortable both on & off the ball.
  • The Hammers, though, got their act together and got themselves back into the game through a goal that shouldn't have stood. Jarvis put them level with a goal from an offside position, before Carlton Cole completed the turnaround moments later.
  • After Southampton scored early on, it looked as though the away side would go on to win this game with ease. West Ham looked rusty and uncomfortable when asked to press the Saints.
  • 45' + 2'
Downing manages to beat Chambers for the first time this afternoon and delivers a lovely inswinging cross into the box. Nolan stretches to get on the end of it, but it's always moving away from him. And Mark Clattenburg brings the half to a close.
  • 45'
The resulting corner is headed away by Nolan on the near post - the clearance falls to Luke Shaw on the edge of the box, but the young full back hits a woeful effort way over the bar to a chorus of laughs from around the ground.
  • 44'
Davis is starting to dictate the tempo from the centre of the pitch as West Ham sit back and let Southampton come at them. The Northern Irishman gives the ball to Lambert who dinks a dangerous ball over the top, but Demel manages to clear for a corner.
  • 42'
Chambers links up with Davis before surging down the right and putting a teasing cross into the box. Great delivery by the youngster, but no-one is there to get on the end of it. He needs more support in the area if he is getting so high up the pitch.
  • 40'
Rodriguez has been wasteful today, his first touch just hasn't been up to scratch. The England international wastes a good chance to get the Saints level, ballooning his shot way over the bar.
  • 37'
That's more like it! Pochettino's side regain possession and West Ham sit back. This gives the away side the chance to string a few passes together and regain some confidence, unfortunately they can't break down an organised Hammers defence though.
  • 35'
It's all getting very scrappy out there now as Southampton try to find a way back into the game. They seem to be trying to forcing the chances, rather than playing their natural passing game - and it isn't working.
  • 32'
Half chance! Cork puts a peach of a cross into the box and Lambert manages to get his head onto it, but his effort comes back off the post and then smothered by Adrian.
  • 30'
It's been a cracking opening half hour here in East London - action-packed and full of drama. Southampton will do well to bounce back from going down and this is this West Ham's game to lose now.
  • 28'
Poor challenge from Chambers leads to another free kick for West Ham. Southampton need to stop giving the home side the opportunity to get the ball in the box as they don't look comfortable defending set pieces.
  • 26'
Southampton are all over the shop at the back. If they don't get things sorted sharpish, this could turn ugly for the away side. West Ham pushing for a third, but they aren't going to get it if James Collins keeps shooting from 30-yards!
  • 24'
I, for one, certainly didn't see that coming! West Ham go ahead after hardly threatening at all in the opening minutes.
  • 23'
    Goal C. Cole
GOAL! Madness at Upton Park. Carlton Cole gets the 50th Premier League goal of his career after lashing home the rebound from his own header that hit the bar. Cracking finish from the big man, and with his weaker foot!
  • 22'
Plenty of debate about West Ham's equaliser. Jarvis looks well offside from the replay and the linesman has got that one wrong. Pochettino will be disappointed with the decision after his young defence have looked so comfortable at the back so far today.
  • 20'
    Assist Kevin Nolan
  • 20'
    Goal Matt Jarvis
GOAL! Matt Jarvis beats the offside trap and puts West Ham level with a tidy finish after a great ball over the top by Nolan. The Saints' defence pushed high up the pitch, but have been caught out this time with a timely run from Jarvis.
  • 19'
Chambers looks such a talent at the back for the Saints. He's had Stewart Downing in his back pocket for much of the opening stages, and once again sees the winger inside before blocking the cross into the box. One for Roy Hodgson to look at.
  • 17'
Southampton gain possession well inside West Ham's half and look to be in a threatening position, only for Lallana to waste the opportunity with a tame shot from 25-yards out.
  • 15'
For all West Ham's hard work, Southampton look comfortable here. Pochettino has them well organised and they're straight on any loose balls in the middle of the pitch.
  • 13'
Nolan sends a ball over the top for Matt Jarvis to run on to, but the former Wolves man can't get near it as Boruc rushes out to mop up. West Ham pressing for an equaliser now...
  • 10'
Almost an instant reply from West Ham. Demel is in acres of space down the right hand side and he puts in a decent cross that causes confusion and falls to Kevin Nolan. You'd expect the big man to stab it home, but he hits it straight at Boruc.
  • 8'
    Assist Steven Davis
  • 8'
    Goal Maya Yoshida
GOAL! Well there goes West Ham's clean sheet. Yoshida heads home a free kick that came from a controversial decision by Mark Clattenburg. Good start by Southampton.
  • 6'
Both of Saints' full backs have been way up the pitch so far today and it's causing West Ham problems defensively as well as limiting them going forward.
  • 4'
Southampton have made a postiive start to the game as they look to bounce back from their FA Cup defeat to Sunderland last week. They're passing the ball about with confidence and already threatening Adrian's goal.
  • 3'
Early chance for Jay Rodriguez who found himself bearing down on goal after a wonderful ball over the top by Adam Lallana, but his first touch lets him down and Guy Demel cleans up at the back.
  • 1'
The away side are the ones to get us underway here at Upton Park. Let the games commence!
  • Daniel Sturridge (16) is the only English player to have scored more goals than Jay Rodriguez (10) in the league this season. Rodriguez is two away from scoring his 50th English career league goal.
  • 25 of the 37 goals they have scored in the Premier League this season have come from English players. Only Liverpool have recorded more (30).
  • No side has lost more points from winning positions than West Ham (14) in the Premier League this season.
  • West Ham have kept four clean sheets in a row for the first time in their Premier League history - they have not kept five in a row in the top flight since December 1985.
  • Gaston Ramirez and Dejan Lovren both return for the Saints after recovering from ankle injuries. However, neither have managed to make the starting line-up for today's game with the Hammers.
  • West Ham remain without Andy Carroll who serves the last game of a three-match suspension after picking up a red card against Swansea earlier in the month.
  • Southampton subs: K. Davis, Clyne, Lovren, Ramirez, Ward-Prowse, Guly, Gallagher.
  • Southampton starting XI (4-4-2): Boruc; Chambers, Shaw, Fonte, Yoshida; Cork, Schneiderlin, S. Davis, Lallana; Rodriguez, Lambert.
