Baggies boss Steve Clarke could hand a debut to striker Stephane Sessegnon, who would face his former club after leaving the Stadium of Light for the Hawthorns on deadline day

West Brom host Sunderland on Saturday with both sides still searching for their first win of the Premier League season.

Steve Clarke's side are in 19th place having picked up just two points from their four outings, but Paolo Di Canio's men have fared even worse as they sit bottom of the table after securing just one point so far this term.

A stoppage-time header from Gareth McAuley helped West Brom rescue a draw away at Fulham last Saturday and Steve Clarke's side will hope that goal can prompt an improved run of form.

The arrival of a work permit for deadline-day signing Stephane Sessegnon will also help the hosts' cause, with the Benin international likely to make his debut against his former club.

They will, however, be without the services of Ben Foster (foot), Zoltan Gera (knee), George Thorne (fitness) and Matej Vydra (hamstring) - though Steven Reid (knock) and Shane Long (hamstring) could return.

Sunderland, meanwhile, will welcome back John O'Shea from suspension but must cope without Phil Bardsley (foot), Wes Brown (knee) and Lee Cattermole (fitness).

The visitors go into the game having not beaten West Brom since a 4-0 victory in December 2008, a run that stretches to seven matches.

And they suffered defeat on both the teams' encounters last term, with Sessegnon coincidentally scoring in both games.
