M. Mandžukić 83'
FULL TIME. A sign of champions today? Despite not playing at their best, two second half goals from Luis Gustavo and Mario Mandzukic have gave Bayern Munich a vital three points today. Werder Bremen will be encouraged by their performance, but they ultimately could not hold out against Jupp Heyneckes's men. Thank you for joining us on Goal.com! See you next time!
90' + 1'
Junuzovic twists and turns outside the area and attempts a shot but it is a terribly weak effort and fumbles wide of the goal.
Javi Martinez now taking control of the game in the latter stages and has instigated a tactic for Bayern to keep control of the ball for a couple of minutes. Bremen getting frustrated but the visitors will be going back to Munich with three points.
Bremen continue to try and find a goal, to their credit. Arnautovic curls a superb cross into the area and Hunt rises high to head at goal but his attempt goes off-target.
Well, that is how managers earn their money. Jupp Heynckes made three substitutions. Javi Martinez had a big part to play in the opening goal and Shaqiri and Mandzukic combined for the all important second.
Assist Xherdan Shaqiri
Goal Mario Mandzukic
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAL FOR BAYERN MUNICH! Two in two minutes!! Substitutes combine! Shaqiri drives down the left and reverses a pass into the centre for Mandzukic, who coolly slots home at the back post! 2-0 and game over you would feel!
Assist Thomas Müller
Goal Luiz Gustavo
GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAL FOR BAYERN!!! They have finally made the breakthrough! Luis Gustavo picks up the ball in a central position around 25 yards out and curls the ball with a left-footed strike into the left corner! Terrific goal!
Yellow Card Marko Arnautovic
Bremen make a change of their own as Joseph Akpala is introduced into the action for Petersen. Not the best of games for the on-loan Bayern Munch man.
Save by Mielitz!! Mandzukic shifts the ball onto his right foot on the edge of the box and attempts to curl the ball into the far corner but the Bremen goalkeeper manages to smother the ball and make the save.
Jupp Heynckes makes his last roll of the dice and brings on marquee summer signing Javi Martinez on for Schweinsteiger. Perhaps the former Athletic Bilbao man can pick out an all important assist.
Another missed strike by Bayern! How many times are they going to drag a shot wide today?! This time its Luis Gustavo who steps up from the centre of the box but his left-footed attempt goes wide to the right.
Terrific entertainment here. Bayern will certainly end the match having had the most shots on goal, but the hosts definitely look dangerous too, particularly through De Bruyne and Hunt.
Ohhh! Unlucky from Arnautovic! De Bruyne excellently gets down the left before firing a teasing cross to the back post but the Austrian was just on the stretch and could not direct his attempt towards goal!
Bayern have had plenty of shots on goal, but Mielitz has not had to play the game of his life to keep it at 0-0. Most of the shots of the visitors have been off target.
The Bremen goal is being peppered with shots at the moment! This time its Ribery who has another attempt. He makes space for himself by running across the edge of the area and drags a shot wide of the post by a whisker!
Muller has another attempt on goal from the edge of the area and although it miles better than his first strike, it is too central and Bremen goalkeeper Mielitz saves easily.
A true sign of the fantastic depth of Bayern's squad there as two of their summer signings are introduced into the action.
Jupp Heynckes must not be happy with the start his team has made to the second half as he makes a double substitution just before the hour mark. Pizarro and Kroos and coming of for Xherdan Shaqiri and Mario Mandzukic.
Bremen counterattack at pace down the left-hand side! Petersen breaks the Bayern offside trap and drives down the flank before cutting inside and lashing a strike at goal but it goes wayward over the bar! Some of his team-mates looked in much better positions there!
On-loan Chelsea man decides to test the gloves of Neuer with a rasper of a shot from outside the box. It was struck with plenty of guile but Neuer was comfortable in his save down to his right.
Bayern are playing a very high defensive line whenever they are in possession. They may need to retreat slightly as the Bremen front line do possess great pace.
It has been a high-octane start to the second half here. Bayern may have hit the post but Bremen are certainly looking dangerous. It is end-to-end stuff at the moment!
BAYERN HIT THE POST!! Kroos slips a pass through the middle for Ribery and the Frenchman attempts to pass the ball into the far corner but the ball comes off the inside of the woodwork! Bremen given a massive let-off!
Lahm and Muller link-up down the right and the latter drives down the wing and attempts to get a cross in but Papastathopoulos defends well and puts the ball out for a corner.
WE ARE BACK UNDERWAY IN BREMEN.
The players are back on the field now. We should be underway in a couple on minutes.
Half time in Bremen. No goals yet in this Bundesliga encounter. Bayern Munich have had the better of the chances, in particular Claudio Pizarro who had missed two great headed opportunities. The Bavarians are looking strong, but we enter the break on level terms. Join us in 15 minutes for the second half!
Pizarro misses another header!!! So close again! Toni Kroos whips a cross into the middle from the right-hand side and the Peruvian, in almost the exact same fashion as his previous attempts, sends his header wide of the right-hand post!
Yellow Card Luiz Gustavo
Luiz Gustavo follows suit and picks up a yellow of his own. The two Bayern central midfielder will be walking on egg shells for the rest of the game.
Yellow Card Bastian Schweinsteiger
Schweinsteiger received the first yellow card for Bayern after a poor sliding challenge inside the Bayern box. Think it may have been Hunt who was on the receiving end. Deserved booking.
Aaron Hunt attempts to take the game by the scruff of the neck and tries a shot from just over 35 yards. Not the worst strike you will ever see but it was never truly a danger to Neuer.
Well it seems odd that the challenge from Lahm did not warrant a yellow card from the referee. The Bremen players and manager perhaps have a right to feel aggrieved as the counterattack certainly had potential down the left.
Lahm continues this trend in the game and cynically hacks down Elia after the Dutchman had excellently turned him on the halfway line. The Werder Bremen dugout are not happy! It was five yards away from the touchline so a few verbal altercations are happening.
The game has been quite fiercely contested so far. Just the one yellow card has been issued but the challenges have certainly been flying in.
Another shot on goal from Bayern as Dante releases Thomas Muller on the right and he attempts to blast the ball towards the top corner. However, it was a tight angle and the 21-year-old sends his attempt high and wide over the bar.
Best chance of the half for Bremen as Arnautovic picks out Junuzovic inside the area with a lovely cross. However, the Austrian puts his header just over the bar. Neuer was never truly troubled.
Great block by Fritz!! Luis Gustavo picks out Ribery with a lovely weighted pass over the top of the defence just to the left hand-side of the box. The Frenchman cuts inside and attempts to find the far corner but Fritz stood solidly and blocked the shot.
Bayern upping the tempo of their game slightly now. They could sense the ascendancy of Bremen and have took measure. Their passing is much more slick and they are moving the ball across the park with pace.
It really is a cracking atmosphere inside the Weserstadion this afternoon. As always the Bundesliga fans come out in tremendous force.
Aaron Hunt starting to see a lot more of the ball now. He has attempted to cut inside twice in the last couple of minutes and twice he has been fouled by Luis Gustavo. Hunt is having some joy against the Bayern midfield at the moment.
Fantastic block by Prodl! Schweinsteiger sets up Kroos on the edge of the box and the Bayern man drilled a shot at goal but again he sees his attempt foiled by the Bremen defence.
Yellow Card Sokratis Papastathopoulos
Bremen captain Fritz attempts to take the pressure off his side with a marauding run down the left-hand side. Thomas Schaaf may not be happy with one of his defenders leaving their post, but the hosts needed a bit of respite.
Toni Kroos turns sharply in the final third and drives forward but his touch just takes him a bit too far forward and he end up sliding in on Zlatko Junuzovic and commits a foul.
Bayern sense they are in control of the match and have just started to strut their stuff in the middle of the park. Schweinsteiger and Luis Gustavo flexing their muscles in centre now.
Ribery is at the heart of the action again. He slips a pass inside into Toni Kroos who fires a shot at goal from the edge of the box but it is well blocked from the Bremen defence. The away side probing here!
Pizarro goes close!!! Outstanding play from Ribery! The Frenchman twists and turns on the left before whipping a cross into the area for Pizarro who headers just wide of the right-hand post!
Vibrant start to the match here at the Weserstadion. Nothing much between the sides yet but Bayern have shaded the possession so far.
Eljero Elia has looked bright in the opening minutes here. He got the better of Lahm down the left and whipped a decent cross into the area. That should be a very interesting battle today.
AND WE ARE OFF!
The players have took to the field now. The pre-match formalities should follow and then we will be ready to go!
An interesting factor in today's game is Nils Petersen, as the striker is currently on loan to Bremen from Bayern. He moved to the Allianz Arena last summer from Energie Cottbus, but failed to break into the first team, prompting his switch to the Weserstadion during the recent transfer window.
This is the starting XI of Bayern: Neuer; Lahm, Boateng, Dante, Badstuber; Luis Gustavo, Schweinsteiger; Muller, Kroos, Ribery; Pizarro
THE TEAMS ARE IN. This is how Werder Bremen will be lining up today: Mielitz; Fritz, Prodl, Papastathopoulos, Gebre Selassie; Hunt, De Bruyne, Junuzovic, Elia; Arnautovic. Petersen.
I'm Martin Macdonald, and I'll be taking you through the action today in what I hope will be an exciting game with lots of chances and goals!
