Had a few flaps when trying to claim the ball from set-pieces but his shot stopping was good. Kept Van Nistelrooy at bay by remaining big to make two good saves. Also kept his concentration to keep hold of two long range shots from Isco.
Was arguably lucky not to be sent of after going in two footed on Joaquin but his performance oozed confidence and he was very comfortable in possession at the back. Made some superb interceptions in the box and attempted to play the ball out from the defence whenever he could.
Switched between defence and attack with Matthieu throughout the match and was a real danger down the left. A fantastic piece of trickery allowed him to nutmeg Demichelis on the wing and whip a fantastic cross to the back post for Soldado's second goal.
Has a very good understanding down the left with Jordi Alba in which they switch between full back and winger. The Frenchman was more effective going forward than in defence as Joaquin caused some problems down the right. Still kept relatively solid and kept him at bay as much as he could.
Continues to impress in his partnership with Rami. Made some important blocks of crosses in the centre, in particular a couple from Joaquin. Juanmi barely had a sniff in the match as the former Napoli man dealt with him solidly.
Showed admirable athleticism throughout the match and effortlessly got up and down the right flank. Defended with composure but his decision making in the final third was questionable at times, most notably driving into the box and attempting a weak left-footed shot when team-mates were in better positions.
A gritty performance from the Valencia captain but his temperament was certainly under question throughout the match. Earned a yellow card for a poor challenge on Joaquin and was lucky not to receive a booking for a high challenge on Rondon.
A decent performance from the Algerian. Showed some neat touches in the final third without being too spectacular. Delivery into the box was steadily good in the match. Linked up well with his team-mates but not a massive danger to Malaga.
The driving force of Valencia in midfield and all of their meaningful play in midfield went through him in some way. Displayed a fantastic range of passing throughout the match and provided excellent passes for his team-mates in the final third.
The difference between the two sides. If Soldado was in the Malaga side it could have been a different scoreline. A superb performance from the striker in which he scored two fantastic goals. A cool finish in the first half and a well-timed volley in the second period. Truly ruthless finishing.
Acted as an effective link between Banega and Soldado and showed his impressive passing ability with a wonderful assist through the centre of the Malaga defence for Valencia's opening goal. Had a couple of shots on goal himself but was never close to getting on the scoresheet.
Had no chance for either of Soldado's goals and was not helped at all by his defence. Made a couple of decent save from long range strikes but was just unlucky to be up against a striker in imperious form.
Could not deal with the duo of Matthieu and Alba down the left and was out of position for the second goal, which lead to Demichelis coming out of the centre of defence to get nutmegged. Shaky night for the full-back all round.
Was caught for pace a few times by Miguel bombing down the right-hand side but did not have as hard a match as his other defensive team-mates as right winger Feghouli often wandered inside. Did not offer much going forward.
Was dominant aerially but struggled terribly with the slick movement of the Valencia front line. Was found totally out of position for Valencia's second goal, in which he was nutmegged by Jordi Alba.
Was given the run around by Soldado at times and resorted to fouling the Valencia hitman. Contributed to some comedic defending at the back and does not seem to be at all comfortable partnering Demichelis.
Obviously wanted to impress on his return to Valencia but this slightly hampered his performance. He attempted complicated trickery at times when a short pass would have sufficed. Still managed to test Alves with a couple of decent shots cutting inside.
Was certainly strong in the tackle but sat too deep in the match, which allowed Banega all the time in the world to pull the strings for his side. Also did not effectively spread the play, which resulted in Cazorla coming too deep to get the ball.
An off night for the record Malaga signing. Nothing he did managed to come off whether it be a free kick into the box or a five yard pass. Did not give good enough service to the front men. However, he was not helped by the lack of runs into the box.
Was the best player in the first half and went out with a point to prove against his former team. Was in a battle as he was the victim of a few bad challenges but powered through and made a number of dangerous dribbles into the Valencia box.
A very poor performance from the Venezuelan. Failed to make any meaningful shots on goal or runs in the box and generally did not look interested. Pulled out of a few 50-50 tackles and failed to play with any heart whatsoever.
Failed to get into the match and did not display signs of communication with Rondon. Was marshalled very easily by Rami and Ruiz and did not create any problems for Valencia. Did not have an affect on the match.

Came on for Banega and showed some of the same passing ability that the Argentine tormented Malaga with throughout the match.
Came on in the latter stages of the match and had a shot on goal from the edge of the box that did not trouble Diego Alves.
Made a late cameo appearance
