  • Swansea had zero attempts on goal, but were excellent at the back. Williams was especially good, thwarting waves of Tottenham attacks, while Tremmel was solid in goal. Eventually Tottenham made the breakthrough, and held on with relative comfort.
  • Lloris was never overly tested by Swansea, but left his line to make several proactive punches and prevent danger from developing. Tottenham had been frustrated by the Swans and their organised defence, though created enough to merit the win, with Vertonghen volleying in the winning goal.
  • FULL-TIME! It's all over and Tottenham have picked up a huge three points and climb to fourth in the table. At last Spurs have managed to hang onto a lead, surviving a late onslaught to record only their third clean sheet of the season.

Fantastic goalkeeping from Lloris. The Frenchman rushes off his line and punches clear, taking Michu out in the process. Swansea expect play to be stopped for a head injury, but Spurs break and Townsend forces Tremmel into a good, low save when clean through. The Swans, and Chico especially, are outraged and a scuffle breaks out. Michu appears to be OK. Jake Livermore - an unused sub - is booked for leaving the bench and joining in the handbags.

Dembele comes off to rapturous applause, and there's a huge cheer as Parker makes his return from injury.
  • 90' + 2'
Dembele may be injured, but he's just made an excellent tackle to halt a Swansea attack.
  • 90' + 1'
There will be five minutes of stoppage time. The home crowd boo the announcement, no doubt perplexed by the amount of added time.

  • 83'
Swansea are surging forward, they have a three-on-two opportunity if Michu can make the right pass, but Naughton steps up and wins the ball. Chico is subsequently fouled and his screams can probably be heard from his native Spain. There's real concern for the centre-back, until he hops up and carries on playing.

  • Despite Swansea's reputation as a fluid possession team, they've been relying on quick breaks and set-pieces for chances today. Michu came closest for the visitors with an audacious lob. The Swans have been extremely compact defensively and will be looking to sneak a win just as they did on their last visit to north London.
  • Walker hit a thunderous drive towards goal prior to good chances for Defoe and Adebayor that were thwarted by goal-saving blocks from Williams, Chico and Michu. Lennon has been a livewire, though his end product has disappointed.

  • The familiar sound of 'Duel of the Fates' rings around White Hart Lane as the players walk out of the tunnel. We're minutes away from kick-off.
  • Spurs have conceded nine goals in the final 10 minutes of matches and scored none – if matches ended after 80 minutes they would be top of the league.
  • Swansea and Tottenham are two of just six Premier League teams yet to win a penalty this season.
  • Both teams saw unbeaten runs come to an end last weekend; Tottenham had been unbeaten in five games in all competitions before losing to Everton, while Swansea had their six-match unbeaten run ended by Norwich last Saturday.
  • Look away Swansea fans, the Welsh club have never won a league match at White Hart Lane.
  • Our man at White Hart Lane today is Greg Stobart, here's his take on the match: "Good afternoon from north London as Tottenham entertain a Swansea side that have never won a match at White Hart Lane in 14 attempts. Michael Laudrup’s side arrive, however, with fond memories of their two other trips to the capital this season, in which they recorded victories over QPR and Arsenal. The general opinion in the press room is that there will be plenty of goals today between two teams that are fluent in attack but can be shaky defensively. Gareth Bale has not recovered from a hamstring problem in time to feature and Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas will be looking for a quick start from his team without their star man."
  • Michael Laudrup has omitted Danny Graham, with Michu picked to spearhead the Swansea attack as a false number nine/centre-forward. Ashley Williams served a one-match suspension against Middlesbrough in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night, but returns to the starting XI for today’s game. Angel Rangel misses out, with Dwight Tiendalli lining up at right-back in his absence.
  • Emmanuel Adebayor returns to the starting XI having served his three-match ban, partnering Defoe up front, while Clint Dempsey deputises for Gareth Bale on the left of midfield. There is a spot on the bench for Scott Parker, though Michael Dawson remains sidelined. Jan Vertonghen moves to his favoured centre-back position, with Kyle Naughton starting at left-back.
  • Swansea subs: Cornell, Monk, Richards, Shechter, Agustien, Moore, Graham.
  • Swansea XI: Tremmel; Tiendalli, Chico, Williams, Davies; Britton, De Guzman, Ki; Dyer, Michu, Routledge.
  • Tottenham subs: Friedel, Caulker, Huddlestone, Sigurdsson, Parker, Livermore, Townsend.
  • Tottenham XI: Lloris; Walker, Gallas, Vertonghen, Naughton; Lennon, Sandro, Dembele, Dempsey; Adebayor, Defoe.
