Commentary

That will do it for tonight's live commentary of the MLS Cup final. Keep it here on Goal for more post-match commentary. Once again Toronto FC has won the MLS Cup with a comprehensive 2-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders, avenging their 2016 MLS Cup defeat. Have a good night everyone!
The only question left is whether or not Toronto with their regular-season points record, MLS Cup and Canadian Cup Championship are the greatest team in MLS history. But that is one for fans and pundits to debate.
For Seattle, a disappointing evening. Aside from Frei, their big names did very little. Rodriguez was invisible. Dempsey showed glimpses, as did Jones. Lodeiro was a non-factor.
The stars showed up when they needed it as Altidore, Bradley, Vazquez and Giovinco were excellent.
It was near-total domination - a victory that the 2-0 line arguably doesn't do justice. Toronto took 21 shots, with 11 on target. Seattle had six shots total, two on target. If not for Frei, TFC would have won by four or five goals.
Toronto FC has won the MLS Cup 2-0 over the Seattle Sounders, getting revenge on last year's MLS Cup defeat and capping their MLS record-breaking season with a title!
AND THAT'S IT! TORONTO HAS WON THE MLS CUP!

90' Toronto gets a chance to counter. Giovinco plays in Cooper, who gets around Frei, but he slams his shot off the woodwork. The rebound hits Vazquez and goes in! Lucky bounce but the goal is deserved! AND TFC is going to win the MLS Cup!
90' GOAL! TORONTO HAS A SECOND!
90' A free kick by Seattle is sent in with a tame header at Bono the result.
90' Chance for Seattle as a throw in comes to Torres. His attempted chance is blocked and cleared!
90' Odd substitution as Joevin Jones comes off in stoppage time with Seattle needing a goal. Jones has been a key member of the Sounders attack all year.
90' That could have been it! With Seattle pushing everyone forward, Giovinco gets free on a long ball. He tries to take it in on goal, but his shouldered off in the area by Roldan, hustling back. He wants a penalty but is not given and remains down.
89' Awkward bounce! An attempted clearance by Toronto hits Hagglund and bounces back toward the path of Dempsey near the six-yard box. But Bono is off his line to grab it just before the striker can get there.
88' Incredibly Toronto still is arguably getting the better chances. A counter results in Seattle being forced to play it out for a corner,  which is played short to burn more time.
86' A pair of substitutes for TFC as Osorio exits for Cooper, while Hagglund enters for the goal-scoring hero Altidore. TFC boss Greg Vanney trying to lock it down with four minutes plus stoppage time remaining.

83' After a camera issue, Seattle takes a corner with Moor sending it out for another corner. The second one is cleared out for now, but Seattle will have a throw.
81' Lodeiro could have shot? Dempsey found him in the area but instead the playmaker sends it wide to Jordan Morris. While Seattle ends up earning a corner, could they have gotten more from it had Lodeiro just tried his luck?
79' A quality chance falls for... Toronto! A sustained set of possession that has both Giovinco and Vazquez heavily involved results in Morrow getting a free chance from the edge of the area. But he mis hits it badly and does not even force a save from Frei.
78' Seattle naturally trying to push numbers forward but so far, not generating much from it. Toronto has tried to break a few times since, with Giovinco going down twice. But neither time was enough to draw a foul.
74' Jones, who has been a big part of Seattle's attack this year, whips in a cross toward Lodeiro. He takes his chance off the volley, but sends it wide. Seattle will need more from both if they want to equalize.
71' Enter Jordan Morris, back from injury, for Rodriguez, who was disappointing. Morris scored the goal that won the U.S. the Gold Cup. Can he muster some more magic here with the Sounders down 1-0?

70' Seattle has been living dangerously for the entirety of this game and Frei had been repeatedly bailing them out. Do they have an answer now that they are down?
67' Seattle caught up field and a Giovinco pass splits the back line allowing to slip Altidore in on goal. Jones tried to close the striker down and Frei came out, but Altidore manages to get it into the back of the net! Toronto finally break through and, deservingly, have the lead!

67' GOAL! JOZY ALTIDORE!
65' Frei AGAIN! Beitashour beats Jones to get into the area. He feeds a ball in toward goal, which Altidore in turn sends to Giovinco. His low shot is expertly saved by the Sounders keeper!
63' Seattle has conceded nine corners tonight. But after the first one, Toronto has not looked to threatening on them.
61' Off the throw in a ball comes into the area with Altidore skying high to get the header off. But he can't get much power on it, and Frei is there again.
60' Awkward save by Frei! A loose ball falls to Bradley at the edge of the area who drives it on goal. Frei manages to keep it from goal and Torres gets it clear!
58' Penalty shout! A cross seems to go to nothing, but Morrow hurries to get on the end of it. Leerdam rushes in to break it up and sends Morrow down in the area. The ref waves play on - does Toronto have a case? It looked close on replays...
55' Seattle has struggled to get a foothold in this game and a large reason why has been the play of Bradley to snuff out counters before they can happen. One does after another spell of Toronto possession and Bradley hurries back to not only break up the play but also win a Toronto FC throw.
54' Seattle trying to push forward into this game as now Leerdam tries an ambitions hit from the edge of the area. But he too skies it well wide and high.
52' Giovinco strikes the free kick... and sends it well over the bar. Disappointing there from Giovinco given how good he's been on them this season.
51' And now a free kick in a somewhat dangerous position for Toronto. It's at an angle, about 30-35 yards from goal. Giovinco to take it.
49' Seattle does get a little bit of possession after the ensuing goal kick however. It results in a Dempsey shot, but the effort is a tame one, and easily scooped by Bono.
48' First chance of the second half... is largely like the chances of the first! A Toronto attack allows Beitashour a clean shot from the edge of the area. But this time he can't keep the shot down and it goes above Frei's goal.
46' And we are underway again in the second half! Can Seattle make Toronto pay for its inability to be Frei in the first half?
But... it's scoreless. So Seattle may have been outplayed badly in the first half, but it doesn't change the fact the scoreline is tied. And after winning last year's MLS Cup on penalties without a single shot on target, the Sounders know they can recover from a lackluster half whicch they were not punished for.
It was all Frei in that half. If not for him, this match might be over, rather than still scoreless. He made several key stops as Toronto put six shots on target in the first half. Seattle had one. In total, TFC rolled to 64 percent possession, outshooting their opponents 11-1.
HT: Toronto 0 - 0 Seattle
44' The nervy moments continue! Altidore loses the ball but it deflects off Giovinco and falls to Morrow near the byline. He sends a hopeful cross across goal, which Jones gets a boot on. It could have gone anywhere, including his own goal, but it went out for a corner.
41' Guess who? After a rare period without much in the way of chances, a turnover leads to Toronto getting a chance from distance for Vazquez. He hits it low and forces Frei into a diving stop! He's keeping them in this!
35' Delgado has a go! Free from about 25 yards, the midfielder takes a shot from distance. It's a rocket and Frei again is there to push it over the bar!
31' SHOT FOR THE SOUNDERS! It's a tame one from Jones at an odd angle however it is the first shot on target for Seattle against Toronto in either of the two MLS Cup finals between the teams!
29' Odd sequence as Altidore appears to get hit in the face by Leerdam and is knocked off the ball. Leerdam then leads the counter, but holds onto the ball too long and when he finally does feed Dempsey, he is well offside.
27' Finally a little bit of sustained possession for Seattle. The Sounders haven't generated a chance off that possession, but it provides a little break for Frei and the back line.
25' A rare appearance for Bono in the other goal. A long ball over the top provides a foot race for Dempsey and the TFC defense but Bono rushes out of his area and heads it clear.
23' More from Frei! Altidore gives it Giovinco at the edge of the area. After dancing over the ball for a bit, Giovinco just has a go. Frei was leaning the other way, but gets a palm up to push it over the bar! And once more Seattle does get the ensuing corner clear.
21' Not this time for Giovinco! He slams the free kick into the wall and Seattle gets it clear.
20' Danger for Seattle! Giovinco gets hauled down about 30 yards away, setting up a free kick from the best free kick man in MLS!
16' Now the lineman catches a break! Morrow appears to break in clear on goal, only for the play to be ruled offside. Replays show Morrow was on, but Frei was there to make the save - if he hadn't been, there would have been a lot to answer for!
14' Nice battle between the fullbacks as Morrow does Leerdam in with a nice turn only to have the Sounders right back recover to break the play up with an impressive sliding tackle.
13' Toronto already has four shots on target. Seattle has none. But the scoreline remains 0-0. Remember last year, Seattle did not get a shot on target the whole match - they won the MLS Cup anyway.
11' FREI AGAIN! Giovinco gets in on goal with Frei and Marshall trying to close. He tries a low shot that the goalkeeper just gets enough of to send out wide for a corner. Toronto can't convert the corner but Seattle is living dangerously!
10' BIG SAVE! Bradley delivers a ball from near the midfield line which Altidore chests down into the path of Osorio who hits a good, low shot on target. But Frei gets down to make the save!
8' Nice interplay between Altidore and Giovinco results in a chance for the latter. But Giovinco does not hit it well, and it rolls tamely into the waiting arms of Frei. That's the first shot on target for either team.
6' Near-miss! Vazquez given time and space on the ball in the midfield tries to pick out Giovinco making a run in behind Torres. But the ball falls in no-mans land - too far for Giovinco and goes out for a goal kick before Morrow can get there to save it.
3' Awkward deflection! This time Leerdam down the right for Seattle tries his luck on a cross. It ends up taking an odd deflection that forces Bono to try to poke it over for a corner! TFC does manage to get that corner cleared.
2' TFC CHANCE! Off the corner a near-post flick on falls to the head of Drew Moor, open at the back post! He tries to guide his header back across goal, and it beats Frei, but also goes over for a goal kick! Moor should have done better!
1' First action came in the form of a Seattle counter as Joevin Jones led the break down the left. But as his cross is blocked Toronto runs a counter of their own with it falling to Jozy Altidore who wins the corner.
1' And we are underway!
For Toronto: Bono; Beitashour, Moor, Mavinga, Morrow; Osorio, Bradley, Delgado; Vazquez; Giovinco, Altidore. TFC goes away from the back three for what looks like a 4-4-2 diamond set up. No surprise to see Altidore up top despite the ankle injury he picked up in the second leg against Columbus.
Seattle comes out in a 4-2-3-1 - Frei; Leerdam, Torres, Marshall, Jones; Roldan, Svensson; Lodeiro, Dempsey, Rodriguez; Bruin.  Joevin Jones shifts back to left back in his final game with the Sounders, after having played the wing for most of the postseason.  Jordan Morris is on the bench for the Sounders, but Ozzie Alonso is not.
TEAM NEWS
If revenge is a dish best served cold then TFC is in prime position - the temperature in Toronto is a chilly 33 F.
It's a rematch twelve months in the making - after the Sounders defeated Toronto last year in the final by virtue of penalties, TFC returns looking to not only secure revenge, but also completely arguably the greatest season in MLS history. They have already secured the most points in the regular season in league history.
Welcome in to Goal's LIVE call of the MLS Cup final between Seattle and Toronto FC.
