Live Commentary

  • Stuttgart's European hopes are desperately fading away now but if they can reproduce tonight's performance in their coming fixtures, they will prove a match for anyone in this division. The Swabians will hope to bounce back away at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday while Bayern look to make it 44 games unbeaten when they host Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. Thanks for joining me, Max Bentley, on this live commentary. Until next time, goodbye.
  • However, you have to credit Bayern Munich for their failure to give up and I'm not sure you will find a finer winning goal this season. The Bayern bandwagon rolls on and they are now 13 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table.
  • Thomas Schneider will feel like a broken man this evening. His Stuttgart side coped excellently with the European champions for long periods and certainly looked the more threatening in front of goal. Those Werner and Ibisevic misses certainly look costly now.
  • FT: Stuttgart 1-2 Bayern. Thiago's sublime injury-time scissor kick gives Pep Guardiola's side a tenth consecutive Bundesliga win as they extend their unbeaten league run to 43 matches. Stuttgart will be wondering what might have been.
  • 90' + 4'
That Thiago goal has hardly given Stuttgart time for the restart. A cruel ending for Thomas Schneider's side. They do not deserve to lose today.
  • 90' + 3'
    Assist Rafinha
  • 90' + 3'
    Goal Thiago Alcántara
WHAT A GOAL FROM THIAGO! The Spaniard seals the points with a sensational finish as he meets Rafinha's cross with a perfectly-executed scissor kick which flies beyond the despairing dive of Ulreich. You will not see too many finer goals in Europe this season.
  • 90' + 2'
    SubstitutionMohammed Abdellaoue S. Sararer
Stuttgart are clearly happy to settle for the draw as Sararer comes on for Abdellaoue. The Norwegian striker has run his socks off up front today.
  • 88'
    SubstitutionMario Götze Diego Contento
A final roll of the dice for Guardiola as Contento comes on to replace Gotze. It has not been the German forward's finest evening in the Bayern jersey.
  • 87'
Mandzukic has looked bright since coming on for Bayern and he holds the ball up excellently before producing a brilliant of skill to get between two Stuttgart defenders and testing Neuer with a fizzing low drive.
  • 86'
    SubstitutionTimo Werner Ibrahima Traore
Thomas Schneider opts to make a second change as Ibrahima Traore replaces Timo Werner. The youngster has spurned several good chances but looks a fantastic talent.
  • 83'
    Yellow Card Martin Harnik
  • 83'
    Yellow Card Jerome Boateng
  • 83'
It's rare that you see these Bayern players so worked up and they surround Harnik after his high foot on Dante. The Austrian midfielder picks up a yellow card and Boateng joins him for his petulence.
  • 82'
WHAT A CHANCE FOR STUTTGART! Thomas Schneider will be furious if his side don't get at least a point here as Harnik's cross picks out Werner at the back post. The 17-year-old takes the ball down brilliantly but his shot is too close to Neuer who makes a comfortable save.
  • 80'
DANTE TO THE RESCUE! Stuttgart are refusing to lie down after that setback however and Abdellaoue finds space on the left. The Norwegian looks up and spots Ibisevic in the middle but his low pass is excellently intercepted by Dante's sliding challenge.
  • 78'
Pep Guardiola's side are looking for all three points now and Boateng strides forward from defence before slicing a shot wildly over the bar. Thomas Schneider will be so disappointed at how his team defended that set-piece.
  • 76'
    Assist Thiago Alcántara
  • 76'
    Goal Claudio Pizarro
GOOALLLL PIZAROOOOO! You can never count out this Bayern side! It's their most veteran of players who scores it as Pizarro ghosts into the Stuttgart box to meet Thiago's teasing free kick with a glancing header which Ulreich cannot keep out. Stuttgart's brave resistance is finally broken.
  • 75'
    Yellow Card Arthur Boka
Boka picks up a booking for climbing all over Mandzukic. Can Bayern test the Stuttgart defence from this free kick?
  • 74'
BAYERN ARE GETTING CLOSER! Stuttgart are living on the edge here as Khedira produces a wonderful block to prevent Muller's shot before Ulreich denies the German from the rebound. Can Guardiola's side find that crucial goal to extend their run?
  • 72'
WHAT A CHANCE FOR BAYERN! Thiago is at the heart of it as he plays a splendid one-two with Pizarro. The Spaniard receives the Peruvian's pass inside the box and looks to bend a shot into the far corner, only to see Ulreich produce a crucial touch with his leg to turn the ball agonisingly past the post. What an important save that could prove to be!
  • 70'
The home fans grow noisier with excitement as the clock continues to tick down the minutes. There is a loud cheer from the Stuttgart fans as Shaqiri's cross goes straight into the gloves of Ulreich.
  • 68'
Stuttgart are not giving up hope of a second goal however and Harnik flicks a ball into Ibisevic's path on the edge of the box but the Bosnian's ambitious volley flashes high over the bar.
  • 66'
The Stuttgart defence are getting pushed back deep inside their own box here and they survive a scare as Alaba fails to pick out a red shirt with his low cutback from the left. It's going to be a nervy final 24 minutes for the Swabians.
  • 65'
    SubstitutionGotoku Sakai Arthur Boka
Thomas Schneider opts to make his first change for Stuttgart as Boka replaces Sakai. It seems the Japanese full-back has picked up a knock.
  • 62'
Gotze suddenly springs into life as his teasing dribble sets up Mandzukic inside the box. The Croatian takes one touch to shift the ball out from his feet before his finessed effort is well saved by Ulreich.
  • 60'
    SubstitutionToni Kroos Mario Mandzukic
  • 60'
Toni Kroos was clearly not happy with being substituted there as he threw his gloves towards the bench. I'm not sure Guardiola will be too amused by that reaction.
  • 59'
    SubstitutionXherdan Shaqiri Claudio Pizarro
  • 59'
Pep Guardiola has clearly seen enough as he makes a double attacking substitution. Mandzukic looks to make amends as he replaces Shaqiri while Pizarro comes on for Kroos.
  • 57'
    Yellow Card Gotoku Sakai
The card count is racking up now as Dante is booked for a raised boot on the shin of Abdellaoue. However, it does not end there as Sakai obstructs Alaba a minute later to earn the fifth caution of the game.
  • 56'
    Yellow Card Dante
  • 55'
BRILLIANT FROM STUTTGART! Ulreich's splendid kick sets up a counter attack for the hosts as Harniks steams down the right. The Austrian whips a dangerous cross into the box and as it is tossed back in by Werner on the far side, Boateng produces a crucial header to prevent Harnik from doubling the lead.
  • 53'
It's not been a good night for Muller so far and he picks up the ball outside the box before blazing wildly over. Mandzukic and Pizarro begin their warm-ups on the touchline.
  • 52'
Kroos whips the free kick into the box but Dante's header lacks power and Ibisevic hacks the ball clear. Bayern know they have a real test on their hands here - they have 38 minutes to salvage their unbeaten run.
  • 51'
    Yellow Card Antonio Rüdiger
The tempers are beginning to boil over now as Rudiger picks up a caution for pushing Shaqiri unlawfully off the ball. Can Bayern take advantage from this free kick out on the right?
  • 49'
    Yellow Card Toni Kroos
Kroos becomes the first Bayern player to be cautioned after a late challenge on Khedira off the ball. It seems that the Bayern players are starting to become frustrated here.
  • 48'
Bayern attack down the other end immediately but Muller cannot thread the ball into Shaqiri's path as Rausch makes another crucial interception. Brilliant start to the second half.
  • 47'
IT SHOULD BE 2-0! Rafinha fails to deal with a long ball over the top of the Bayern defence and his sliced clearance falls straight to Ibisevic in the box. The Bosnian has the whole goal to aim at but he inexplicably fires wide, albeit under pressure from Dante. Will Stuttgart rue that missed opportunity?
  • 46'
The referee blows his whistle for the second half and Stuttgart get the game back underway. There have been no substitutions at the break.
  • HT: Stuttgart 1-0 Bayern Munich. Thomas Schneider's side enjoy a deserved lead at the break courtesy of Vedad Ibisevic's tenth league goal of the season. The Bavarians have struggled to penetrate a resilient and organised home defence, with the absence of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben particularly noticeable. Is Bayern's 42-match unbeaten Bundesliga run finally coming to an end?
  • 45'
CHANCE FOR STUTTGART! Harnik has enjoyed a brilliant half for the Swabians and he tees up Abdellaoue on the edge of the box, only to see the Norwegian slice an effort wastefully over the top.
  • 43'
SHAQIRI GOES CLOSE! The Swiss winger produces a wonderful drop of the shoulder to spin away from the surveillance of Leitner before his left-footed shot curls inches wide of the post. Bayern are starting to look more dangerous now - can they snatch an equaliser before the break?
  • 41'
GREAT HIT FROM THIAGO! Muller cushions Alaba's crossfield pass into Thiago's path on the right corner of the box and his stunning half-volley is tipped away expertly from the top right-hand corner by Ulreich. That's the closest Bayern have come to scoring.
  • 39'
Bayern continue to falter in front of goal as Kroos watches his curling left-footed effort flash over the crossbar from the edge of the box. Can Stuttgart hold on until the break?
  • 37'
Pep Guardiola is up from the bench, barking orders at his players as they continue to struggle against this organised Stuttgart defence. They really are missing the threat of Ribery and Robben on the wings. Could we see Mandzukic in the second half?
  • 35'
Remember that the last time that Stuttgart tasted victory against Die Roten was back in 2007, when goals from Mario Gomez (2) and Yildiray Basturk gave them a 3-1 win.
  • 34'
STAT: Vedad Ibisevic is the only current Bundesliga player to have scored against every single team in the division.
  • 32'
That goal has given the hosts a newfound sense of confidence and they continue to pour forward in numbers. Harnik, in particular, has been a constant threat.
  • 30'
Is Bayern's 42-game unbeaten run coming to an end? The Bavarians are yet to test Ulreich in the Stuttgart goal.
  • 29'
    Assist Mohammed Abdellaoue
  • 29'
    Goal Vedad Ibisevic
GOOOOALLL STUTTGART! The hosts take a shock a lead as Werner cuts inside the challenge of Muller before his shot deflects kindly off Ibisevic and into the feet of Abdellaoue. The Norwegian instinctively pokes the ball back to Ibisevic who coolly opens up his body and slots past Neuer. Where was the Bayern defence? That's the Bosnian's tenth league goal of the season.
  • 26'
Leitner capitalises on Thiago's heavy touch to set up a Stuttgart counter attack but as the ball is played out wide to Werner, the 17-year-old takes a touch before firing his cross wildly out of play - much to the frustration of the white shirts in the middle.
  • 24'
Bayern perform some wonderful one-touch passing to cut through the Stuttgart resistance down the right but once again, Rausch sticks out a leg to deny Thiago's cross. The Spaniard then runs to the front post to meet the resulting corner but his header flashes wide of the target.
  • 22'
    Yellow Card Moritz Leitner
Leitner picks up the first booking of the game after a late, nasty challenge on Kroos.
  • 21'
Thomas Schneider will be happy with how his side have contained the Bayern attack so far and Ulreich has not yet had to make a meaningful save. Can they keep it up until half-time?
  • 19'
Gotze is looking to make the runs in behind the Stuttgart defence but the former Borussia Dortmund forward has been rather anonymous so far. Boateng attempts to play a long ball over the top for him to chase but Sakai reads the danger and backpeddles speedily to win the header.
  • 17'
Bayern are speeding up their passing here and Thiago looks to slip an incisive pass beyond the defence for Muller but Rausch sticks out a toe to make a crucial interception.
  • 15'
Gotze and Muller exchange some neat passes inside the Stuttgart half before Thiago picks up the ball outside the box. The Spaniard sends a teasing cross into the middle and Rudiger, somewhat nervously, skews the ball narrowly over his own crossbar.
  • 13'
PENALTY SHOUT FOR STUTTGART! The hosts have looked dangerous going forward and Harnik gallops down the right once more before he picks out Werner at the back post. The 17-year-old meets the ball with a fine downward header which strikes the arm of Rafinha but the referee is not interested in the Stuttgart appeals and waves play on. Bayern have got away with that one.
  • 11'
CHANCE FOR BAYERN! Kroos latches onto a loose ball on the edge of the box and his shot deflects kindly off Leitner straight into the feet of Shaqiri. The Swiss winger looks to lift the ball over the head of the advancing Ulreich but his effort loops onto the roof of the net.
  • 9'
Alaba whips in a cross from the left but Rudiger rises highest to prevent Muller meeting it with a firm header. The 20-year-old Stuttgart defender has made a bright start here.
  • 8'
WHAT A CHANCE FOR STUTTGART! Ibisevic's neat back heel sends Harnik clear down the right and his cutback picks out Abdellaoue in the box. The Norwegian striker falls to ground, demanding a penalty under the pressure of Dante, but the referee plays on before Werner blazes a left-footed shot over the bar. The 17-year-old should have hit the target there.
  • 5'
Bayern test the Stuttgart defence with a long throw into the box, but Ulreich jumps above Lahm to pluck the ball out of the air. Schneider will be relatively happy with the way his side have started here despite the visitors' possession.
  • 3'
As you would expect, it is Bayern who are dominating the possession early on. Thomas Schneider has opted for a 4-4-2 formation tonight - a little risky against this freescoring attack some might say.
  • 2'
Bayern are looking to stamp their authority on this match from the start as Alaba slips the ball down the left wing for Shaqiri to chase. However, Rudiger is alert to the danger and he uses his strength to outmuscle the Swiss international and win back possession.
  • 1'
Manuel Grafe blows his whistle and Bayern get the game underway. Can they make it 43 Bundesliga games unbeaten?
  • The teams emerge from the tunnel with captains Vedad Ibisevic and Phillip Lahm beginning the respective handshakes. Stuttgart are in their traditional white jerseys with Bayern in their familiar red strip. Manuel Grafe is tonight's referee.
  • Stuttgart's hopes of European football are fading fast and they currently lie in 12th position. Can they upset the odds and reignite their season? Kick-off is moments away...
  • Bayern Subs: Starke, Contento, Weiser, Sallahi, Hojbjerg, Pizarro, Mandzukic.
  • BAYERN (4-3-3): Neuer; Rafinha, Boateng, Dante, Alaba; Lahm, Thiago, Kroos; Shaqiri, Gotze, Muller.
  • Stuttgart Subs: Kirschbaum, Niedermeier, Boka, Traore, Sararer, Yalcin, Maxim.
  • STUTTGART (4-4-2): Ulreich; Schwaab, Sakai, Rudiger, Rausch; Leitner, Khedira, Harnik, Werner; Ibisevic, Abdellaoue.
  • BAYERN TEAM NEWS: Pep Guardiola names an unchanged side after the 2-0 win at Borussia Monchengladbach. Xherdan Shaqiri is given another chance to impress out wide as there is no space in the squad for the crocked Franck Ribery or Arjen Robben. However, Mario Mandzukic appears to have shown improvement in training as he returns to the bench.
  • STUTTGART TEAM NEWS: Thomas Schneider makes two changes to the side which were beaten 2-1 by Mainz as Rani Khedira and Timo Werner come in for Christian Gentner and Alexandru Maxim. Bosnian striker Vedad Ibisevic needs one more goal to take his league tally for the season into double figures.
  • The statistics do not bode well for the hosts, with Bayern taking nine wins from the previous 10 meetings between them. In fact, the last time that Stuttgart tasted victory against Die Roten was back in 2007, when goals from Mario Gomez (2) and Yildiray Basturk gave Stuttgart a 3-1 win.
  • Tonight's opponents are a Stuttgart outfit who are looking to avenge last season's 3-2 DFB-Pokal final defeat. Thomas Schneider's side head into the encounter with just one victory in their last five league matches, and suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Mainz on Saturday.
  • Guardiola's Bavarians resumed the Bundesliga campaign following the winter break with a comfortable 2-0 triumph at Borussia Monchengladbach - making them the first side to take all three points from Borussia-Park this season. That win extended Bayern's unbeaten league run to 43 games, is there any stopping them?
  • Bayern Munich look to continue their seemingly relentless charge towards the defence of their Bundesliga with a visit to Stuttgart this evening. Pep Guardiola's side saw their title rivals all slip up at the weekend and they have the chance to go a whopping 13 points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen if they can secure a tenth successive league win at the Mercedes-Benz Arena tonight.
