Live Commentary

  • I've been Simon Harrison, and I hope I've kept you entertained throughout this fixture, I'll catch you all next time!
  • Thanks for tuning in to Goal.com's LIVE coverage of South Africa's 2-0 win over Angola in Africa Cup of Nations Group A, giving the hosts a much-needed three points after an assortment of changes from manager Gordon Igesund.
  • Angola only gained composure on the ball after South Africa already had an unassailable lead, and the visitors will be heavily dependent on other results as they head into their final Group A match.
  • Full time in Durban! South Africa 2-0 Angola! A great first half performance was enough for the hosts, and goals either side of the break from Sangweni and Majoro were enough to give the Africa Cup of Nations host country their first three points of the tournament!
  • 90' + 4'
Majoro has gone down in a heap after colliding with Lama, he looks to be quite hurt. South Africa supporters will be hoping that the injury too severe, as the forward has made quite an impact since coming on. The stretcher is now on the field though, it doesn't look great.
  • 90' + 3'
Now it's a matter of running down the clock for the hosts. Their second half performance hasn't been brilliant, but it's been enough to keep the Angolan duo of Manucho and Guilherme quiet - and that pair ran riot against Morocco at times.
  • 90' + 1'
We're into stoppage time, and South Africa surely won't be caught now. Angola have come back into the game, but it's been a case of too little too late. It's tough to see where their goals in this tournament will come from, unless they give Manucho better service.
  • 90'
There's an example of Khune's great distribution! After plucking a Manucho header out of the air, the South African goalkeeper launches the ball down the to other end of the pitch, setting up a counter attack. Fantastic ball.
  • 89'
Ngcongca seems to lightly punch Amaro in the head, but the Angola striker throws himself on the ground as though he's been shot! Embarrassing.
  • 88'
Angola are actually retaining possession quite well now, but it's too little too late. Amaro is writhing around on the floor, seemingly after being caught by Ngcongca.
  • 86'
Manucho flights another header at goal, but Khune is equal to it yet again. The South African keeper hasn't had a great deal of troubling saves to make in this game, which is testament to Angola's lack of cutting edge.
  • 85'
    Substitution William Amaro
  • 85'
OH! Manucho, almost! Khune pounces upon the Angolan's header, the number nine has been superior in the air today, even against Khumalo. If only Angola could give him better service..
  • 83'
Parker nearly gets in behind Miguel, but the full-back manages to hook the lofted ball away for a throw-in. Lama was in no man's land there, it was fortunate that his own player got to the ball first!
  • 81'
After a flurry of action early in the second half, the game has somewhat fizzled out. Angola have definitely grown more into the game, as demonstrated by their chances, but you get the feeling that South Africa chose to lower the tempo and pressure, rather than Angola playing particularly well.
  • 80'
Letsholonyane gets clattered by Djalma, who steams into him. The substitutes both get back up to their feet quickly though, it would have been easily for the South African midfielder to have made more of that.
  • 78'
    Substitution Katlego Mphela O. Manyisa
  • 78'
Majoro has been a real handful since coming on for Bafana Bafana. He's caused real problems for the sluggish Angolan centre-halves, who have spent much of the game chasing lost causes.
  • 76'
However, the South African wall does it's job and diverts the ball behind for a corner. Khune flaps at the resulting delivery, finger-tipping it out for another corner. South Africa are under aerial siege at the minute!
  • 75'
Angola pick up a free-kick in a dangerous area, about 20 yards from goal, after Khumalo drags Guilherme to the ground.
  • 73'
Lunguinha needs to be kept in Angola's half, I think! The marauding right-back has pushed on brilliantly in the second half, but his final ball has been awful. Two misplaced crosses in the last five minutes, leaving Manucho looking exasperated.
  • 72'
Half-chance for the hosts! Good build up play results in Majoro throwing a foot at a cross, but he fails to divert it accurately - Lama stands and watches the ball go harmlessly wide.
  • 71'
The game has gone a little bit quiet over the past few minutes, as both sides struggle to get a foothold. On another note, Masilela has been fantastic for Bafana Bafana so far, definitely their stand-out performer with Furman for myself.
  • 68'
Great play from Angola! The visitors played several composed passes, involving an intricate flick from Mathues, however Lunguinha's cross at the end of it was horrific! Straight at Khune.
  • 66'
Djalma controls the ball out on the left flank, with plenty of time, and looks to find Manucho with a near post cross. The substitute fails to find the final ball he desired though, he's yet to make an impact really.
  • 65'
Dede rightly takes his place on the bench for Angola, the midfielder has had a bit of a nightmare. The combination of Mahlangu and Furman in the first half kept him extremely subdued - his only contribution being a terrible backpass.
  • 64'
    Substitution Dédé Gilberto
  • 63'
Great play by Majoro, to justify Igesund's decision to take off the lively Rantie! All of the changes that the coach have made thus far today have been brilliance. The addition of Furman has settled the midfield, Mphela has looked a danger throughout too.
  • 62'
    Assist Reneilwe Letsholonyane
  • 62'
    Goal M. Majoro
GOAL! Majoro! The substitute slides the ball between the legs of Lama to give the hosts a seemingly unassailable lead! Great finish!
  • 60'
Angola have every right to be aggrieved with some of the referee's decisions during this game. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more cards for the visitors before the final whistle, patience seems to be wearing thin!
  • 58'
Substitution Tokelo Anthony Rantie M. Majoro
  • 58'
Rantie gets placed by Majoro, despite the 22-year-old creating a lot for the hosts. Majoro has probably been told that he has to prove himself, we've all seen enough from Rantie this afternoon to justify why Majoro should be on the bench!
  • 56'
Great play from South Africa sees the ball worked from left to right, but at the vital moment, Mphela overhits his ball to the overlapping full-back. Nice ideas from Igesund's side.
  • 55'
Mathues and Guilherme combine again, but Sangweni manages to get his head to the cross before the Angolan striker. If the goalscorer hadn't been there, surely it would have been 1-1!
  • 54'
Ooh! That's even closer for the visitors! Lama manages to get a fingertip to a Dean Furman effort, to push it around the post. Clever effort from the Oldham Athletic player!
  • 52'
Ooooh! Khune manages to pull off a great save to deny Guilherme of an Angolan equaliser! Great work from Mathues down the right side to set the chance up!
  • 51'
Parker delivers a terrible free-kick, wasting another South Africa set piece in a dangerous area. Khune wants to get in on the act too, it seems, as his usually good distribution fails him, overhitting his clearance and giving Lama the ball.
  • 50'
    Yellow Card Dany
  • 49'
Lunguinha gives the ball away for his side, allowing South Africa to pump a ball forward to Mphela, but Massunguna manages to intervene and defuse the danger. Moments later, the Angolan defender picks up a yellow card for a terrible tackle on Rantie.
  • 48'
Rantie looks lively again for the hosts, however he gets crowded out by Angolan defenders. The 22-year-old has been quite effective, yet frustrating in this game, his game has certainly lacked an end product so far.
  • 47'
The Angolan bench are going wild, all of the substitutes are out of their seats! It seems as though the officials forgot to signal an Angolan substitute at half time! How bizarre.
  • 46'
    Substitution Geraldo Djalma
  • 46'
Substitution May Siphiwe Mahlangu Reneilwe Letsholonyane
  • 46'
The referee signals the start of the second half, hopefully Ferrin has given his Angolan side a fiery teamtalk to inspire a fightback! South Africa's Manlangu has been replaced by Letsholonyane at the break.
  • Igesund's changes have certainly worked so far, South Africa look a totally new set-up compared to their opening match. Dean Furman has performed far better than Letsholonyane managed to against Cape Verde, and Rantie has caused a great deal of problems for Angola. It'll be tough for the visitors to get a victory this afternoon, but a point isn't out of the question whatsoever.
  • Angola on the other hand, have spent the majority of the opening 45 minutes camped in their own half, devoid of confidence or ideas. Manucho and Mathues seem to be the main men, but haven't received the ball enough to make an impact. Despite it all, Angola are by no means out of this game! An exciting second half awaits!
  • Phala, Rantie and Mphela have been a bumbling force of momentum for the hosts, and although they're not the most precise trio, I feel that if they keep creating half-chances, something will come of it.
  • The referee blows his whistle and Bafana Bafana head into the changing rooms ahead! South Africa 1-0 Angola, with the hosts causing all sorts of problems.
  • 43'
Ooooh! Angola could have levelled the scores! Mathues could, and probably should have scored, after the ball fell to him in plenty of space at the back post! The hosts break up the other end, and Parker manages to test Lama.. end-to-end stuff!
  • 42'
South Africa could do with a second goal before the break, just to settle their nerves. They've had good possession in good areas, but really need to try and force the issue. Failing to capitalise on this pressure could cost them later on.
  • 40'
Oooh! Khune almost costs his team a goal, as the South Africa goalkeeper hesitates before racing out to clear the ball at the edge of his box. Manucho was inches from getting to the ball first, and if he had the score may well have been levelled!
  • 38'
Angola don't appear to have a backbone, they're being manipulated and soundly beaten by a far superior South African side. Dean Furman has been a welcome addition for Bafana Bafana, I would say, as he's actually something of a chassis for the team. A chassis they didn't really have against Cape Verde.
  • 37'
Mahlangu has just made a really odd decision. The midfielder bursts into space, with a catalogue of options ahead of him, but decides to shoot, instead of picking out Phala who was in acres of space on the right wing.
  • 36'
Angola now manage to throw together another meaningful attack, but Matheus gets the ball stolen of his boot, just before he attempts a strike at Khune's goal!
  • 34'
Phala has performed well so far for South Africa, his pace is forcing Angola to close him down with two men. With such measures being taken, the hosts might just be able to find some space in other dangerous areas of the pitch.
  • 33'
Angola have Pirolito to thank as the midfielder drops back to cover and shepherd the ball back to Lama, after Dede almost gave South Africa a second goal with a lazy backpass.
  • 31'
That goal was definitely well deserved, Angola have offered nothing offensively so far, and the hosts have kept the ball much better! Having said this, Manucho fires a header at Khune's goal moments after, forcing Khune to palm the ball out for a corner!
  • 30'
    Goal S. Sangweni
GOALLL! South Africa score! Sangweni turns it home! A defender grabs the hosts first goal of the tournament, and it takes it fantastically, volleying home a looped ball at the back post!
  • 27'
South Africa have been superior in every department so far, they look a totally different side to the one who played out a goalless draw against Cape Verde. I suppose Igesund has changed almost half of the starting line-up!
  • 26'
Sangweni lofts a ball up towards Mphela, and it looked to be inch-perfect, however the South Africa number nine couldn't quite stretch to get the pass under control! That was unfortunate.
  • 24'
Angola have looked fairly toothless so far, but you can sense that Manucho may well be their only hope. He's competed well in the air against Khumalo, that's for sure, as the POAK defender dominated aerially versus Cape Verde.
  • 22'
Phala whips a ball into the box, before Mphela and Rantie exchange a one-two, resulting in Rantie blasting the ball well over the bar.
  • 21'
Mahlungu and Phala combine well down the right, but their exploits are met by a strong challenge. Angola aren't taking any prisoners today, that seems clear!
  • 20'
Angola are really struggling to retain the ball, as South Africa manage to pick up the pieces in midfield. Mphela and Rantie have both looked particularly dangerous, the visitors need to up their game here, or they could be on the end of a defeat!
  • 18'
Oooh! Mphela goes close again! The striker almost manages to pounce on a good cross, beating Lama to the ball - just. However, he fails to divert the ball towards goal! This is a far better performance from the hosts than in their opening game.
  • 17'
Rantie manages to break free of the last defender, but pulls his effort wide of Lama's goal. The 31-year-old hasn't had to make a save yet, nothing has been on target..
  • 16'
Unlucky for South Africa! Mphela has a strike at goal, however Rantie manages to get in the way of his own teammates effort, and can't get to the rebound!
  • 15'
Manucho holds the ball up well, allowing Angola to flood forward, however the ball is gradually worked back towards their own half. That was the first time the ex-Manchester United man has actually touched the ball!
  • 13'
Angola are having to resist heavy pressure in these opening exchanges, however they have looked fairly dangerous on the break. As the hosts have their tails up, attacking on the counter could be a viable option for Ferrin's men.
  • 12'
A combination of Phala and Rantie down the right flank almost results in the ball being flashed across Angola's six yard box. A good block manages to put the ball out for a South Africa corner, however.
  • 10'
Angola need to be a little more careful, they've given away numerous free-kicks in dangerous areas and we're only ten minutes in!
  • 9'
Ooooh! The captain almost puts South Africa in the lead. Khumalo rises highest to attack a Parker free-kick delivery, but fails to really connect with the ball. If he had, it could well have nestled in the Angolan net!
  • 8'
Mphela wastes possession for South Africa by attempting what can only be described a speculative effort. He drags a long-range effort massively wide, that was quite embarrassing for the striker, to be honest.
  • 7'
Massunguna almost makes a costly error for his nation, after taking a poor touch which almost gifted South Africa a chance at goal. Strangely, the referee decides that the Angolan defender was pushed, and gives a free kick. There didn't look to be much wrong there.
  • 5'
A firm delivery from Parker manages to hit South Africa's target man Mphela, but his attempted header balloons over the bar. Those kind of efforts aren't going to worry Lama.
  • 4'
South Africa however, claim the first free kick, after Massunguna was penalised for a holding his man back.
  • 3'
Ooooh! Mateus claims the first chance of the game! A quick break left the midfielder with plenty of space at the edge of South Africa's area, however he drags his shot wide.
  • 2'
Rantie claims to have been elbowed by Angola's Dany, merely minutes into the game, but the referee didn't see anything wrong with the challenge.
  • 1'
    And we're underway!
  • We're minutes from kick-off now, the vuvuzelas are out in full force yet again - let's hope that the great atmosphere can inspire some goals! There are noticeable changes for South Africa too, it seemed Igesund wasn't suitably impressed with their opening match!
  • The vuvuzelas quieten for the South Africa's national anthem, there's quite a large crowd too - as you would expect for the hosts.
  • The national anthems ring out, with a stadium full of enthusiastic fans cheering on Bafana Bafana. With both sides yet to score in the tournament, I'm interested to see which way this game goes!
  • Angola starting line-up: Lama, Lunguinha, Massunguna, Dede, Miguel, Bastos, Pirolito, Geraldo, Mateus, Guilherme, Manucho.
  • South Africa starting line-up: Khune, Ngcongca, Khumalo, Sangweni, Masilela, Furman, Mahlungu, Phala, Parker, Rantie, Mphela.
