Thank you for joining us at Goal.com for the commentary on today's game. I am Tom Webber and it has been a pleasure to guide you through today's action. Remember to stick around with us for all the post-match news and analysis. Have a great evening.
Ranieri will be pleased with the three points but there is still clearly many issues that need to be addressed at the club. A toothless display which will not live long in the memory but they managed to muster a win.
Relief floods the faces of the Inter players thanks to Luc Castaignos first goal for the club. Did they deserve it? Definitely not. You have to feel for the Siena players who put in a great shift for their side but it was not to be.
Yellow/Red Franco Brienza
Assist Thiago Motta
Goal Luc Castaignos
IT'S IN!! CASTAIGNOS!! It did not look like it was going to come but the young Dutchman has his first goal in Serie A and it was relatively simple. He found space between the defenders and managed to stay on side slotting home from Thiago Motta's pass. Not the prettiest of goals but that could well be the three points!
Into the final minute of stoppage time and it looks like it's not going to happen for the hosts.
Brienza sees red for his second bookable offence. After losing the ball to Nagatomo the ref sends him off early for dissent as he wheeled away and kicked the corner flag. He could have let that one go given the circumstances.
Yellow Card Dejan Stankovic
Stankovic loses the ball and Mannini but is chased down by the Serb who is booked for a poor challenge.
SKIED IT! Motta dinks the ball into the box and Pazzini back heels it into the path of Stankovic who fails to get hold of the ball and sends it high and over the bar. Just about sums up the day for Ranieri's men.
...MOTTA BENDS IT... But Brkic is equal to it and the ball is cleared. The effort lacked pace and was close enough to the diving keeper for him to make a comfortable save.
Here we go! Can Inter convert this set-piece on the edge of the area. Castaignos is brought down on the edge of the area. This could be the opening goal of the game...
Yellow Card Franco Brienza
Finally Diego Milito is ready to come on. He scored the only goal the last time Inter visited the ground. That one secured the Scudetto; how different it is today!
Straight from the goal kick Inter are almost caught out as they fail to get a head on the ball. Ranocchia misjudges the bounce allowing Brienza in behind but his pass is intercepted by Zanetti. These are really anxious times for the Inter faithful.
Inter get a corner which reaches Ranocchia at the second time of asking. The defender gets his head on the ball but misses the target. He should have done better there.
So it is still 0-0 with just under 15 minutes left to play. Inter have failed to work any clear cut opportunities and really push for a goal. Truly disappointing from the men from Milan.
This is poor from Inter. Siena are going forward less now but the visitors are lacking any adventure as they knock the ball around. Diego Milito should have been introduced much earlier but remains on the bench.
Still Inter are struggling with the final ball and you have to wonder why Ranieri opted to take off Alvarez. His delivery was the only reason Pazzini got involved in the first half, without him the striker has completely vanished this half.
Finally Inter exert some meaningful pressure on their hosts but the ball just will not seem to fall for them. Stankovic could not find away through a mass of bodies in the area and when the ball falls to Pazzini in front of goal, the ball is poked off his toe by the defender.
Great ball into the box almost finds Calaio at the back post but Zanetti just manages to get his head on the ball and divert it away from the striker. Great effort from the Argentine.
It is all Siena this half with Inter yet to mount a serious attack. The hosts are finding acres of space and getting plenty of time on the ball. What do you make of Ranieri's substitutions? Drop me a tweet @thwebber.
Larrondo chests down Gazzi's ball in the area and invites the defenders onto him with his back to goal. He goes down under the slightest touch from Samuel. It could have been given but just looked too dramatic!
Inter look sloppy. Motta gave the ball straight to Gazzi with a five-metre pass in his own half. Fortunately Gazzi gives the ball straight back but Siena are really stretching Inter here.
Stankovic has another effort from distance but this time he misses the target, dragging the shot wide. That didn't stop Brkic diving for the ball but you can never be too safe from one the Serb's shots!
Calaio misses a header from an acute angle as Siena really pile on the pressure. They have not been beaten in four games at home and that does not look like changing the way they are currently playing. Very productive for Siena.
LARRONDOOOO!!! He will be disappointed with that. Obi is caught in possession in his own half and within a few passes the Argentine had the ball at the edge of the area. He worked the space but screwed his shot wide. A real let off for Inter.
Whenever an Inter player gets on the ball he is confronted with someone from the opposition in a matter of seconds. Will Siena be able to keep up this level of pressure for the full 90 minutes? It is certainly containing and frustrating Ranieri's side at the moment.
CALAIO AGAIN!! Another good ball from Mannini and Calaio gets on the end of it in the area having peeled off Ranocchia. He stabs at the shot and fails to get it on target. Worrying signs for the side from Milan.
Brienza breaks forward and gives the ball to Mannini. He sends the ball across the box but no-one gets on the end of it and it runs out of play. The hosts clearly sense a positive result here.
We're underway again! Ranieri has made two changes at the break in an attempt to stir things up. Zarate and Alvarez have been withdrawn, Castaignos and Obi have replaced them. Meanwhile Diego Milito remains on the bench!
Welcome back. I hope you are ready for the second half here in Tuscany. Can Siena hold on to a clean sheet and earn some extremely impressive points? Will Inter get that injection of creativity they need? Lets find out.
I'll be back in about 15 minutes for the second half. Make sure you stick here as we should be in for an interesting second half as Ranieri looks to outmaneuver the opposition. See you in a bit!
With Pazzini on his own up front Inter have rarely threatened. They look relatively dangerous down the flanks but lack the final penetrating ball. Siena have contained them well and will want more of the same in the second half.
The whistle has gone with it still 0-0 at half time. Inter will have to step it up a gear for the next half or risk missing out on an extremely important 3 points.
Just one minute of time added on. Siena have performed solidly in the first half and they will be extremely pleased with the performance in the first 45 minutes.
CALAIOOOO!!! The Inter centre backs are caught all over the place and Calaio manages to squeeze in a shot. He can't quite find the far corner and the ball rolls wide.
Inter look laborious and just lack ingenuity. There is little in terms of creation from them though Ricky Alvarez's delivery has been at a high standard.
Yellow Card Claudio Terzi
Zarate bundled off the ball once again and the referee does not award his team anything. The game has died down after a fiery 10 minutes or so. The longer it goes on goalless you could see Siena stealing one as Inter push.
It was on this ground in May 2010 that Jose Mourinho led Inter to the Scudetto and condemned Siena to relegation. Inter have only picked up three points away from the San Siro once this season, a 3-1 win at Bologna back in September.
Another chance for Siena but Mannini is off balance when he heads the ball. It was marginally behind him and his header is wayward.
SO CLOSE!! Alvarez corner is spilled by Brkic and it bounces up to Samuel to fire home but he sends it straight into the ground and it is cleared. Siena counter attack but Brienza fails to test Julio Cesar with Inter stretched.
...They fail to work it well but keep the pressure on with a corner.
A wasted free kick by Siena allows Inter to break. Stankovic switches the ball to Zarate who drives at goal. He cuts inside Mannini and is brought down winning a free kick...
Zarate wins a corner and he whips it into the danger area but no-one can get on to the end of a bit of a scramble in the box as Inter start to turn up the heat.
Top quality delivery from Alvarez again but Pazzini gets under his header and sends it over the bar. Quick stuff from Inter, the kind of injection of pace that this game desperately needs.
Another stray long ball from Samuel gifts Siena possession and Del Grosso almost slips a pass through to Larrondo in the area. The game is really lacking a spark at the moment.
Inter try to take the ball through the middle but it is far too congested and Pazzini runs into trouble and possession is lost. Calaio and Larrondo are looking a bit isolated up top for the hosts.
There is definitely a threat down the right for Inter. Alvarez and Nagatomo are combining well but the Argentine is guilty of trying to over-do it and loses the ball.
STRAIGHT AT THE KEEPER!! Samuel initiates a move finding Alvarez down the right. He clips in a delightful ball and Zarate gets his head on it at the back post but puts it straight into Brkic's arms. Either side and they may have taken the lead!
Rannochia is turned too easily by Calaio and the Inter defender tugs on his shirt and drags him down to the floor. He is booked for the challenge.
Yellow Card Andrea Ranocchia
Zarate is the main outlet for Inter down the left and side and is looking fairly dangerous. He wins a corner and there is a break in play following a collision in the box.
STANKOVIC!! The Serbian tees up a shot and drills on at Brkic but the keeper gets down low to turn the ball away from goal. Great save!
A bit of slow start here in Tuscany. Neither team has taken the initiative. Zarate tried to launch an attack for Inter but was closed down by the defenders. Siena looked to counter and won a corner.
Inter Milan are trying to hold on to the ball and spreading the play nicely but are perhaps giving possession away a bit cheaply.
Inter Milan finished top of their UEFA Champions League group in midweek thanks to a goal from Ricky Alvarez. He will hope his side can start to push on in Serie A now and start climbing the table.
Siena put on some early pressure lofting the ball forward and closing the Inter players down quickly. Great turn by Calaio on the bye line to beat Samuel but he couldn't keep the ball in play.
We're underway here in Tuscany with the pitch bathed in sunshine. Both in their traditional strips.
The teams are out on the pitch kick off is just a matter of minutes away! Let's hope for a cracker!
Inter: Julio Cesar; Zanetti, Ranocchia, Samuel, Nagatomo; Thiago Motta; Alvarez, Stankovic, Cambiasso, Zarate; Pazzini. And on the substitutes bench there is: Castellazzi, Cordoba, Caldirola, Poli, Obi, Milito, Castaignos.
On the substitutes bench for Siena we have: Pegolo, Angelo, Gonzalez, Belmonte, Bolzoni, Contini, Reginaldo.
Here is the team news starting with the hosts. Siena(4-4-2): Brkic; Vitiello, Rossettini, Terzi, Del Grosso; Mannini, D'Agostino, Gazzi, Brienza; Calaiò, Larrondo.
