J. Draxler 85'
That's it from me Harry Slavin. Thanks to all of you who joined m this evening for tonight's action in Gelsenkirchen. Until next time, goodbye!
FULL-TIME SCHALKE 3-0 STEAUA. A fantastic second half display from Jens Keller's men sees them coast to victory in the second half. It took a touch of luck to get into the lead but two very well worked goals after Ushida's opener served to assert Die Konigsblausen as worthy winners.
90' + 3'
Ushida tries to find Boateng with a deep cross which sails out for a goal kick. That should just about be that.
90' + 1'
WOODWORK!!! Ushida is played in behind the back four and he finds replacement Clemens with his cut-back, the sub finding the foot of the post with his scuffed effort.
Into three minutes of added time we go. Three more minutes for the Schalke fans to show their appreciation of their side's efforts this evening.
Jefferson Agustin Farfán
Double substitution for the hosts as Hoger and Farfan make way for Goretzka and Clemens. Both have been superb this evening.
Schalke have played some of their best football since going ahead. They're still defending well too as Howedes gets up well to nod clear Bourceanu's corner.
Assist Christian Fuchs
Goal Julian Draxler
GOOOAAALLL!!! DRAXLER WRAPS IT UP!!! Another beautifully worked goal from the hosts as Farfan plays to Fuchs, who has just arrived on the scene, on the edge of the area. He picks out the run of Draxler who take the ball in his stride and has the awareness to dink the ball over the onrushing Tatarusanu.
Hoger has been in the wars all evening and this time he takes a thwack from substitute Cristea. Hoger is back up on his feet though and the Steaua man goes in the book.
Yellow Card Adrian Cristea
A mixture of relief and celebration now washes over the Veltins-Arena. The home fans certainly think this job is done now. It would seem that way.
Assist Julian Draxler
Goal Kevin-Prince Boateng
GOOOAAAALLL!!!! BOATENG IS ON THE SCORESHEET!!! He loves a Champions League strike does this boy! This is a goal made by Schalke's creative trio and it's a lovely move too as Farfan picks out Draxler on the edge of the area. The German then slips in Boateng who puts the ball back across goal into the far corner first-time. The game looks safe now for the hosts.
That's a couple of penalty decisions the hosts have had turned down now. I wasn't 100 per cent convinced by the first appeal from Boateng but Farfan certainly appears to have a case.
Farfan is free down the right and he decides to take on Gardos. The central defender bundles the Schalke man to the ground but referee Cuneyt Cakir isn't interested, much to the Peruvian's dismay.
Leandro Ângelo Martins
Boateng shoots from just inside the area but it's partially blocked and rolls behind for a corner. The Ghanaian was in a good position there and he'll be disappointed not to have done better.
Hmm, Bourceanu is perhaps a little lucky to get away with that one. He loses the ball in a midfield tussle to Boateng and as Farfan comes away with the ball the Steaua man, already on a booking, swipes at the winger. Free kick, but no second yellow.
Szalai skies a volley way over the bar from the edge of the area as Schalke go in search of a quick second!
Assist Benedikt Höwedes
Goal Atsuto Uchida
GOOOAAALLL!!!! A HORRIBLE MOMENT FOR THE STEAUA DEFENCE!!! Oh dear, that is not the prettiest of goals to concede. The home fans do not care one jot though. Uchida's deep cross from the right is left by Szukala, but wit keeper Tatarusanu expecting the ball to be cleared, the ball is left to bounce in the are and into the net.
Kapetanos hasn't enjoyed the most eventful of evenings in front of goal this evening. He is pulled off for Pivaccari for the final quarter.
Lovely movement from Popa as he goes close to opening the scoring! The winger is picked out on the edge of the box by a cute through-ball but he still has to weave his way in and out a couple of tackles before flashing a drive across the face of Hildebrand's goal.
Nicolae Claudiu Stanciu
Leandro Ângelo Martins
Stanciu's evening is over. He is replaced by Leandro Tatu. He gets some last minute instructions from Reghecampf. I hope he was listening to all the things he said.
Farfan send in another cross, Szukala heads away again. This is becoming a familiar pattern in this game now. Schalke need to find some quality from somewhere to add to these deliveries.
They've just shown the penalty appeal from Boateng again. The ball does actually appear to hit the hand of Szukala and his hand is in a very bizarre position - up by his shoulder. I think the close proximity of the players though has dissuaded the ref from giving it. Probably just about right.
OFF THE LINE!!! Bourceanu sends in an inswinging corner and it looks to take a deflection off a defender as it heads towards the far corner. The majority of the ground breath a collective sigh of relief as Uchida heads the ball off of the line.
Aogo whips in a dangerous free kick into the perfect area as the defenders can't clear and the keeper can't come to claim. Unfortunately for the home side no Schalke player can reach it either. Still no breakthrough.
Boateng is adamant his side should have a penalty! He receives the ball in the area and aims a low shot towards goal that is blocked by a sliding challenge, but the no.9 thinks it has hit the arm of Szukala.
Good defending from Gardos as he gets across quickly to stop Farfan from bombing down the right. He had to get that right or Schalke would have had a three-on-two there.
Sore one for Pintilii as Neustadter falls on his standing leg. It didn't look too clever but luckily the midfielder is on his feet and should be okay to continue.
It almost falls for Kapetanos! The forward has been practically redundant so far but he can't adjust his feet quickly enough to get a decent shot away.
We are back underway and almost instantly the visitors have a corner.
The side's are back out for the second period. Can either break the deadlock. We are about to find out.
It's not been a bad game by any means, and both sides are going for it. Schalke have the home advantage but their fans might be a little disgruntled that they haven't broken the deadlock yet.
HALF-TIME SCHALKE 0-0 STEAUA. Goalless at the break then in Gelsenkirchen but you wouldn't have thought that possible in the opening ten minutes. Schalke have had space and chances, just no end product. Steaua meanwhile, still look a threat on the break. Still all to play for here.
45' + 1'
The corner, like every other before, is easily cleared by the Romanian side's defence and that will just about do us for the first half!
Just a minute left then. Schalke mount one last attack of the half and have a corner.
The free kick is actually in a decent position but it's wasted as Stanciu picks himself up, dusts himself down and thrashes his effort over the bar.
Yellow Card Marco Höger
The referee would seem to be getting a bit card happy here but really he doesn't have a choice. Stanciu is scythed down by Hoger as he makes a bee-line for the penalty area. Hoger joins the two Bucharest players in the referees notebook.
Yellow Card Adrian Popa I
Popa miscontrols the ball and goes flying into Hoger. Another booking for the visitors.
A shot does come in from Bourceanu but Hildebrand deals with it easily. It was on target but the Steaua captain didn't get much else right with that effort.
Matip fouls Popa on the right as the winger advances forward. Free kick in a shooting position for the visitors now.
Just ten minutes of the first half remaining and we still await our first goal.Steaua are growing in confidence the longer they keep the hosts at bay.
A warning shot from the visitors that Schalke aren't going to walk this. They've lost a bit of their early momentum the home side and Steaua are closing down a lot more effectively on the flanks.
CLOSE!!! Steaua Bucharest haven't really ventured into the final third too much this half but when they do here Hildebrand has to be on his toes. Tanase strikes a vicious effort that is arrowing into the side netting but the German keeper is across well to parry it behind.
Boateng has a chance as Farfan pulls the ball back into the area but the former Milan midfielder fluffs his lines and sends the shot wide.
Yellow Card Alexandru Bourceanu
Alexandru Bourceanu commits his second foul in as many minutes and he is the first into the book as he brings down Boateng on half-way.
It's a weak delivery from Aogo and it's easily cleared by the visitors. The hosts are placing plenty of balls into the area but Steaua are coping so far.
Farfan is clipped by Steaua captain Bourceanu. Free kick in a crossable position for Schalke.
To be fair to the visitors when they receive the ball, and that's not often, they are looking to play the ball on the deck. Nice to see, although it hasn't done them much good so far.
A brief stoppage here after a nasty break. Luckily it's not anyone's leg but the linesman's flag. The fourth official spots the distressing scene though and is quickly across with a replacement flag. Phew!
Steaua come forward now as Tanase skips past a couple of tackles. It's eventually played out right to Popa but the winger tries for goal instead of crossing and Schalke block and clear.
Boateng pounces on a loose ball in midfield and plays the ball out wide to Farfan, He brings in Uchida but the move breaks down when the full-back misplaces the return pass.
Farfan swings in a couple of corners in just a couple of minutes for Die Konigsblausen but the Romanian side are dealing with them easily enough for the moment, heading both clear easily.
BOATENG!!! Schalke use the wings once more, this time the right. Farfan gets to the bye-line before laying the ball off to Uchida. His lofted cross finds Boateng at the back post but Tatarusanu stands tall to turn the ball behind for a corner.
Schalke are looking to draw their opponents into the centre of the park to create room out wide for Draxler and Farfan. They're intent on using the channels this evening.
Tanase lets fly with Steaua's first effort bit Howedes blocks well and Hildebrand claims the ball as it plummets back down into his area.
CHANCE!!! Uchida charges down Szukala's attempted clearance and the ball is taken down by Szalai in the Steaua area. The striker turns outside the last defender and cracks a low effort towards goal, Tatarunsanu getting down well to stop it.
They try down the right now as Uchida gets his first touches of the game. Dominatn start from the hosts here in Gelsenkirchen.
Schalke are concentrating their early efforts down the left hand-side here and Aogo is now up to support Draxler and run beyond him. The left-back can't pick out anyone in the middle but that's more early joy down the flank for the hosts.
The noise inside the Veltins-Arena, as you would expect, is deafening. Incredibly atmosphere being generated by the home fans.
Immediately there is room down the left for Julian Draxler! The 19-year-old fizzes the ball across the box but no Schalke player can get on the end of it.
Away we go! Schalke are actually in their greensih-coloured change kit which actually almost like camouflage against the pitch. Hopefully they'll still be able to find each other this evening.
The sides are both out. Schalke coach Jens Keller and Steaua's Laurentiu Reghecampf share an embrace. We are about to get underway.
STEAUA BUCHAREST:(4-2-3-1) Tatarusanu; Georgeivski, Szukala, Gardos, Latovlevici; Pintilii, Bourceanu; Popa, Stanciu, Tanase; Kapetanos.
SCHALKE: (4-2-3-1) Hildebrand; Uchida, Howedes, Matip, Aogo; Hoger, Neustadter; Farfan, Boateng, Draxler; Szalai.
Right we aren't far from kick off so let's get some team news. We'll start with the hosts.
I can't see that happening again anytime soon though. But what's to stop Bucharest fans from dreaming, eh?
Steaua's pedigree in this competition is a just that little bit more impressive. The Ros-Albastrii actually one the European Cup in 1986 courtesy of a penalty shoot-out victory over Barcelona, making them the first ever Eastern-European outfit to lift the famous trophy.
Both of these teams have plenty of European experience under their belts. Schalke may have been outshone in the competition last year by the two other German sides in the competition but they still produced their best performance in the competition, reachin the last 16 before they were knocked out by Galatasaray.
Last night's inaugural round of fixtures produced a whopping 30 goals. Can these two side's at to that tally tonight in Gelsenkirchen? When Kevin-Prince Boateng is lining up to play in Champions League tie, you would never bet against it.
Good evening and welcome to round two of the Champions League opening week. I'm Harry Slavin and I'm here to bring you all the action from the Veltins-Arena as Schalke prepare to host Romanian's Steaua Bucharest.
