Saint-Étienne won 5 - 3 on penalties
That's it from me Harry Slavin, thanks for joining me and remember to stick around on goal.com for full reaction to tonight's Coupe de la Ligue action, au revoir!
The better chances fell to the away side throughout the night and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will feel he should have been on the scoresheet on a couple of occassions. But that's what happens when you don't take you're chances and full credit to Saint-Etienne who end the month as they started it - with victory over PSG!
It was a poor match in honesty but the scenes at the end have been worth waiting for a jubilant Stade Geoffrey-Guichard can now start dreaming of their side lifting La Coupe de la Ligue for the first time in their history.
Aubamayeng has just sent Saint-Etienne into the semi-finals of La Coupe de la Ligue. Fantastic scenes at the end as he and goalkeeper Ruffier are mobbed by their teammates. Ibrahimovic and Co storm straight down the tunnel.
ABAUMAYENG SCORES!!! SAINT ETIENNE WIN 5-3 ON PENALTIES!!!!
ARMAND SCORES! Good penalty under pressure from the fullback, 4-3
PERRIN SCORES! the Saint-Etienne captain puts his side in control, 4-2. Armand has to score...
THIAGO SILVA MISSES! Ruffier saves the Brazilian's penalty!
BRANDAO SCORES! Douchez guesses correctly but the ball goes under him, 3-2.
NENE SCORES! A little stutter in his run up and he sends it left past Ruffier, 2-2.
GHOULAM SCORES! Docuhez may have got a hand to it but it's found the top corner, 2-1.
IBRA SCORES! Coolly slots into the bottom right, 1-1
COHADE SCORES! places bottom left, 1-0
So the penalties aren't going to be taken in front of the Saint-Etienne stands - they're going to be taken in front of the empty stand. Cohade is up first for ASSE.
Saint-Etienne have already triumphed in one penalty shoot-out on their route to this quarter-final so they should really know what they're doing. Having said that will the pressure of the home crowd get on their own player's backs?
120' + 2'
THE MATCH GOES TO PENALTIES! No goals after 120 minutes so to the shoot-out we go to resolve this quarter-final.
Unsurprisingly the pitch resembles a bit of a battle field at the moment. Aubamayeng and Armand are both lying in a heap after a collision. There's probably a few more players who would like to join them on the floor out of sheer exhaustion.
Important touch from Francois Clerc as he nicks the ball off the feet of Ibrahimovic in the box to put it behind for a corner. That could have spelt danger if the PSG man was allowed to bring that down.
That is as close as anyone has come in extra time. Sylvain Armand controls the ball on the edge of the area and strikes a fierce effort which Ruffier has to fist behind.
Ibrahimovic has just tried his now patented 'ridiculous overhead-kick'. This time however he is penalised for a foul after making no connection with the ball whatsoever.
Stade Geoffrey-Guichard is still jumping but Lavezzi almost shrowded it in silence there. The Argentinian plays the ball out wide for Zlatan and continues his run but cannot get a shot in when Ibrahimovic finds him with the cross.
Thiago Silva is first up to meet the cross however and the danger is cleared. Both sides have been let down by their final ball tonight.
Matuidi brings down Aubamayeng with a clumsy tackle from behind and the home side have another chance at a dangerous delivery.
Ancelotti still hasn't called on any more reinforcements from his bench. If he has any decent penalty takers on their I would suggest he thinks about sticking them on within the next 15 minutes.
That should have been the opening goal but as it stands these two sides are still inseparable. Into the second half of extra time we go.
Ibrahimovic most do better there! An awful mistake sees the ball passed straight to Lavezzi in the Saint-Etienne box and he lays it off to the Swede who tries to round the kepper, and fails miserably.
Cohade finds Brandao on the edge of the box and the Brazilian turns smartly to create space and shoot but once again it's simple for Douchez.
Ibrahimovic is almost through again as Lavezzi pounces on Cohade's awful pass in midfield. The Argentinian can't get enough power on his pass though and it's intercepted before it reaches his strike partner.
Ibrahimovic throws Nene a dirty look as his cross sails straight out of play. Servis to the Swede hasn't been great tonight but he's had his chances.
Guilavogui is next to try his luck but his effort is bravely blocked by Sakho. Promising start to extra time by the home side.
Aubamayeng volleys over the first chance of extra time. There has been a glaring lack of composure in front of goal in tonight's match.
So 90 minutes couldn't separate the two sides. Let's see if 30 minutes more will do the trick.
90' + 3'
That free-kick was the last action of normal time. It's finished 0-0 so we now have the joy of extra time to contend with. PSG still have a couple of options open to them on the bench, Guillaume Hoarau could be making an appearance as both sides search for the opener.
90' + 2'
90' + 2'
The substitute Romain Cohade puts his free-kick into the wall (where else was it going to go tonight!) but there is a big shout for handball as it hits Matuidi. His arm was raised.
Yellow CardClément Chantôme
We are in to two minutes of stoppage time and and Guilavogui has just won a free-kick on the edge of the 'D' for ASSE. Chantome gets booked for the offence. Big late chance this for the hosts...
In all the excitement I missed Alonso replacing Hamouma for Saint-Etienne. Don't worry though as the next change doesn't pass me by. Lemoine is replaced by Renaud Cohade.
Douchez hasn't had to do much this evening but he had to be alert their to punch away Clement's cross that was reaching Brandao. At the other end Ibrahimovic's flick from Nene's cross is just wide.
Nene wins a corner and takes it quickly, almost too quickly for the rest of his teammates though as they don't have the time to get in the box. As a result Saint-Etienne break and Maxwell is forced to pick up the evening's first booking for hauling down Hamouma.
Bright first contribution from Nene as he finds Ibrahimovic with a cross from the right. The Swede nods the ball down for Lavezzi but the Argentinian has his volley blocked.
That was Menez's last action as he is replaced by the masked maestro Nene. Ten minutes of normal time left at the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard. Where is our Cup hero at?
That is just stupidity from Menez. The former Roma man thinks he is fouled and when the ball is played back to him by Lavezzi he puts his hands on the ball in hope more than expectation. Needless to say the free-kick goes the way of the hosts.
Neat one-two between Lemoine and Hamouma just outside the PSG area results in Lemoine having a pop at Douchez's goal but he doesn't catch it properly and the ball is propelled over the bar.
Brandao is full of running since coming on. He picks up the ball in his own half and punts the ball 20-yards ahead and still backs himself to get to the ball. His courage has to be admired but Sakho is easily across to deal with the danger.
The game is becoming a bit more stretched now. There's a lot of room in midfield for both sides to drive into and the wide players are relishing that. I don't want to jinx anything but a goal could be on the horizon.
There's a hold up in play here as the Brazilians Thiago Silva and Brandao are both down in the PSG area after a clash of heads. They're both pretty tough boys though and no treatment is needed.
Now it's PSG's turn to threaten from a corner. Maxwell swings in the ball and Thiago Silva gets up unmarked to meet it with hos head but sends it wide. He should have done better and his reaction suggests he knows it.
The home side are still very much a threat here. Not for the first time this evening Aubamayeng isn't picked up at the back post at a corner, this time he skews his volley just wide.
Lovely interplay between Maxwell and Menez is curtailed by the linesman's flag. Meanwhile Les Verts make that change and bring on Brandao in place of Gradel.
Les Parisiens' attacking threat is a lot more prominent in the second half already. We've seen a lot more of Messrs Menez and Lavezzi. Saint-Etienne are going to throw on a sub in an attempt to turn the tide.
Menez is next to test out the handwork of Ruffier, taking the ball down in the are and shuffling the ball onto his right foot to strike goalwards. The ASSE goal remains intact though as Ruffier get's down low to save.
That was almost spectacular. Jeremy Menez meanders down the left and fires a fizzing ball towards Zlatan. The Swede stops it dead with his chest and smashes a half-volley towards goal but Ruffier is in the right place to hold onto it. Fantastic play by the no.18.
Ibrahimovic fires yet another free-kick into the wall. A good night for lovers of the man-made blocade so far.
That's ambitious! Saint Etienne's silver-fox Fabien Lemoine tries a volley from 30-odd yards after PSG head out Gradel's free-kick but he gets it horribly wrong and it sails high and wide.
Lavezzi has his shirt tugged and wins a free-kick in the Saint-Etienne half. We've yet to see a booking this evening. Surprising that considering the fiery encounter that we saw at the beginning of the month.
Jallet checks inside from the right and tries to let fly on Ruffier's goal but the PSG man can only muster a tame effort that the goalkeeper could have thrown his cap on.
Maxwell has been having a lot of joy down the left flank for the visitors this evening but he's struggling to find teammates in the area. PSG could do with more men in the box attacking the Brazilian's crosses.
Oh dear, Matuidi won't want to see that again. The midfielder watches as the ball drops out of the sky on the edge of the area but the former ASSE man takes a complete airshot, much to the pleasure of the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard crowd.
Carlo Ancelotti's men take the restart. There are no changes to either side at the break so the line-ups are as they were.
PSG are back on the field after making Saint-Etienne wait in the cold for a bit. We're about to get back underway at Stade Geoffrey-Guichard.
And if PSG are the side to progress tonight they will be boosted in the semi-final stage by the introduction of Lucas Moura to their ranks. The Brazilian will finally join up with his new side in January after the Brazilian season finally came to an end this month.
This is the first of four quarter-finals this week. Montpellier host Nice tomorrow while Lille go to Bastia and on Thursday Rennes take on Troyes. I think whichever side progresses tonight will fancy their chances of reaching the final.
Saint-Etienne have already endured the torture of extra-time and penalties this season in La Coupe de la Ligue. Ancelott's strong line-up hasn't produced the goods thus far. Hopefully we'll see a breakthrough in the second half.
HALFTIME: SAINT-ETIENNE 0-0 PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN. A fairly entertaining opening period but there should have been a goal or two to talk about. Ibrahimovic is the prime suspect, fluffing his lines when through one-on-one. We're in for another tense 45 though.
There is no stoppage time and that is the half...
Fantastic piece of ingenuity from the pair and so close to a great goal! Ghoulam flicks the ball up into the air for Hamouma to hit on the volley but the midfielder doesn't catch it as cleanly as he would've liked and it skews wide of the upright.
Foul right on the edge of the area by Chantome on Hamouma. Now it's Saint-Etienne's turn to threaten from a free-kick. Ghoulam and Hamouma stand over it.
Jallet swings in a deep cross for PSG but it goes over everyone. Disappointing from a decent position but signs that the visitors are now growing into this.
He does fancy it but the wall stands firm. You'd have hoped for a better effort from the 31 year-old.
Free-kick given to PSG within strikable range. Ibrahimovic looks as though he fancies this...
Ibrahimovic plays the ball to Lavezzi's feet just outsdie the area. The Argentinian makes a bit of space but his shot is straight at Rouffier.
Douchez finally gets his gloves dirty, getting down low to hold onto Faouzi Ghoulam's long-range drive.
Gradel creates space to swing in a cross but he can't pick out Aubameyang. That could prove a problem for the home side all night if they persist with just one up front.
Both teams are flying high in Ligue 1 at the moment and their close proximity in the league table is being matched by the action on the pitch. Not much to separate the two so far.
We've reached the halfway stage of the first half and manager Christophe Galtier will be very pleased by Les Verts' start to the match. PSG have a free-kick in a dangerous area but it's easily dealt with by the Saint-Etienne defence.
ASSE certainly have their tails up at the moment. Aubameyang causes yet more trouble, dispossessing Silva in his own area but the hosts can't capitalise on this occasion.
Another wasted effort from the home side. Aubameyang and Gradel do a power of work to retain possession but their teammate Guilavogui gets a bit too excited when the ball lands at his feet and the less said about his shot the better.
Big chance from the corner but Aubameyang's header at the back stick is chested off the line by Chantome. Moments later Hamouma tries his luck from range but his shot sails way over the bar.
Second corner of the night for the home side coming up. Let's see if they can get out of each others way this time...
Ibrahimovic missed a similar opportunity at the weekend against Troyes. He's obviously lost the taste for scoring simple goals after that wonder strike against England.
Big chance for Zlatan to open the scoring! Out of nothing the Swede is suddenly through on goal after intercepting Moustapha Bayal's poor pass but Ruffier comes to the rescue to block his shot with his legs.
Max-Alain Gradel swings in the first corner of the evening which falls between two Saint-Etienne players but both get in each others way.
The ASSE fans behind Nicolas Douchez's goal are creating an absolute racket. No doubt they'll be giving him a few reminders of the result from earlier in the month.
We have our first effort of the night and it comes from PSG. Ibrahimovic, fresh off his stunning performance at the weekend tries his luck from some distance but Stephane Ruffier is able to hold onto the effort.
Sorry I should mention that the chat box is in the live match centre. On the pitch Blaise Matuidi comes in from behind on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He's ucky to escape a booking.
Both sides have already shown attacking intent at a noisy Stade Geoffrey-Guichard. If you want to get involved in tonight's action then get using the chat box at the side of this page.
So here we go then. Saint-Etienne have never won La Coupe de la Ligue. A victory tonight would give them a real chance at success this year.
PSG on the other hand only entered at the fourth round stage seeing off Marseille 2-0. The teams are out now and we are about to get under way.
Both sides had to overcome Ligue 1 opponents to get this far. Saint-Etienne needed penalties to get past Lorient in the third round while they had a more comfortable passage into the semi-final, seeing off Sochaux 3-0. Tonight will be the first time Les Verts play at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in this season's competition.
Meanwhile the hosts make a couple of changes from the side that Valenciennes last Friday. Romain Hamouma came off the bench to score the winner in that match and he is rewarded with a starting berth tonight. He replaces Brandao while Josuha Guilavogui replaces Renaud Cohade from that victory.
PSG have made five changes in total from the side that disposed of Troyes at the weekend. Javier Pastore and Marco Verratti are replaced in midfield by Clement Chantome and Jeremy Menez but the most important news for their fans will be the inclusion of their Swedish superstar up front.
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN: Douchez, Silva, Sakho, Maxwell, Armand, Jallet, Matuidi, Chantome, Menez, Lavezzi, Ibrahimovic. SUBS: Sirigu, Camara, van der Wiel, Sissoko, Rabiot, Hoarau, Nene.
SAINT-ETIENNE: Ruffier, Ghoulam, Bayal, Clerc, Clement, Lemoine, Guilavogui, Hamouma, Perrin, Aubameyang, Gradel. SUBS: Moulin, Mignot, Cohade, Brison, Alonso, Brandao, Mayi.
I think it's clear from Ancelotti's selection that his side mean business tonight. Despite five changes from the weekend there are still a number of threats in the visitors line-up, most notably Zlatan Ibrahimovic's first start in the competition this year. In fact let's take a look at how each side lines up.
Good evening and welcome to Goal.com's live coverage of the Coupe de la Ligue clash between Saint-Etienne and Paris Saint-Germain. These sides met already at the beginning of this month when Les Verts shocked Carlo Ancelotti's men 2-1 at the Parc des Princes. PSG will be looking ot set the record straight this evening.
